is there a differance between the uniform a female officer wears compared to the male officers? could you discribe what an officer wears? is there much differance between the gear they had back in the 1970s to what they have now?

same exact or is (was) there a female uniform and a male uniform but both look the same?

Females wear the same uniform. The construction is a bit different, because the females are form fitted. However, they look the same to the eye.

The uniform itself has not changed much since the 70s, but there is a lot more equipment now. Flashlights are smaller and more powerful, and batons did not expand in the 70s. Officers carried a wooden one that was much bulkier.

Other differences are the popularity of OC (pepper spray) and tasers. Back in the 70s, you relied on your baton or a sap (a bag filled with lead powder, also called a blackjack).

Revolvers were the gun of choice back then, as opposed to the semi automatics carried now.

The specifics as to what is worn is determined by department policy, so that could vary quite a bit.
