Prison clothes?

Prisoners should wear basically what they are wearing now. Alot of time and research has gone into inmate uniforms.

1. They need to be cost effective so they can be worn numerous times and put through numerous washings thereby saving the taxpayers money in the long run.

2. They need to all be the same color and style so that they are set apart from the clothes worn by civilian staff to prevent things like escape.

3. They need to be colors that will not encite gang or any other type of violence. Injury or death brings lawsuits - taxpayer funded.

4. Shoes need to be sturdy and closed toed to again prevent injuries which taxpayers will then have to foot the medical bill. Thongs are provided in most cases due to communal showers and the risk of infections... again with the saving taxpayer dollars in the long run.

Just my thoughts!

It's funny that most of you refer to ALL prisoners as scumbags, lowlifes, etc......

Are you all really that judgmental? Do you really believe that anyone who has ever been booked into a county jail does not deserve to breathe the same air as you do? I'm sure that no one in any of your families has ever been arrested right? None of your friends either? I guess none of you have ever done anything illegal that would have gotten you arrested had you been caught either eh? Let's just hang 'em all right?

I agree that jails and prisons are meant to punish, and there are a lot of bad people in them (murderers, rapist, pedophiles, etc.)....but I don't think that everyone who makes a mistake is a lowlife a-hole.

you get blue white striped shirts and jeans, different jails have different rules on kit, some inmates kit as there number stamped on it.

yp, a young person in jail wears blue and Gray or red and Gray track suits with no pockets.

if a prisoner is high risk of escape or tryed it before he gets what is called bannaed up, he has bright yellow strips on his kit(clothes)

this is in the UK, i have no idea about the rest of the world.

a inmate can wear his own clothes till found guilty one guilty he loses his own clothes and must wear prison issue clothing

I hate to say it but the Americans have got something right. Orange jumsuits and plain white soft trainers.

Women should wear the same. Trouble is they will go to the European court of human rights (or whatever those numpties call themselves) and win on the basis that they dont like the colour. Thats the state of the legal system today.

in uk they do wear uniform trackies or blue/white shirts unless you're on remand then you can wear own clothes each prison differs on what they wear but each prisoner in that prison wears the same

When I was in we had jeans and a grey T shirt and a wine coloured jumper. There's also a bib that they have for visiting so people don't get 'mixed up'. They have green and yellow overalls for high risk prisoners and those who have tried to escape but obviously never had those.

I think you should be able to wear your own clothes as having to wear stuff that other people have had isn't great. They could ban anything that might be similar to what the staff wear but otherwise why not?

By the way if you are on enhanced you get to wear your own clothes any way.

Guys should wear pink burlap jumpsuits with fuzzy bunny slippers.

Guys wear blue jeans and plain white or gray t-shirts. Sweatshirts can also be worn on colder days. Women can wear the same. Same for women. Footwear could be boots or tennis shoes. Velcro ones may be best so they can't construct a noose, etc. out of the laces.
