The divorce rate is astronomical among cops. if the wife is already against it, that tells me that his marriage is obviously less important than his ego. and the self stroking of it.

One of the good parts is that half of the world will love you. One of the bad parts is that half of the world will hate you. SO THAT ONE IS A WASH. Really it is a dangerous, thankless job. My brother in law (cop 30 years) says it is 98 percent boredom and two percent sheer terror.. Indeed that you spend almost all the time waiting for something to happen and then the rest of the time wishing it had not.

I can't tell you about being a cop, But I can say living with one is not easy. That being said, I know every day at my hunny is a hero. He's one of the better ones though. (I might be a little partial) If it's a calling, then it's the best thing for your friend. Be supportive, and be there for your friend when he decides what he wants to do with his life.

Pros: camaraderie with other cops, help people, serve your country.
Cons: hated by just about everybody, what you do is almost always unseen, high chance of injury/killed (you're more likely to get hurt as a police officer than the military, this is because military has so many non-combat jobs but still. .).

Sad story: Some soldiers who had just come home from being away walked into a restaurant and everyone in the place stood up and gave a round of applause. A few minutes later a few firefighters came in on break in their gear, again people stood up and gave a round of applause. A little while later some police officers walked into the restaurant on their break. Nobody even turned a head.
Police officers are so awesome to me that they do their job even when they don't get credit/are hated for it. They protect the very people who don't care, can't say that for military or firefighters: just about everybody loves military and FFs.

well obviously the pros would be that he gets paid, has good cop friends and saves lives. probably free donuts as well.

cons would be that the majority of people will hate him because 80 percent of police are hyprocrites, think they are better than everyone else. they steal, cheat and lie because they can. also there is a possibility of getting shot.
