This guy supposedly attacks the Dutch royal family and the Prosecutors will not tell people who he is. Well ... since the media already has ... what is the point of refusing to release his identity?

I guess they have to stick with the program of not releasing identities of people under investigation. Even if everybody already knows who they are.

Only cowards kill others to make their point.

In fairness, the article actually does state why they will not officially release his identity "in line with Dutch privacy laws".

These laws are designed to respect all people and are not invalidated just because someone commits a crime (even if a devastating one involving loss of life)

As you said, the Dutch media inevitably have used the informal channels and are releasing info similar to what is mentioned in this article. There have also been interviews on the news with his neighbours and even a bar attendant all testifying to his character.

Given that he has died, it will be impossible to confirm the exact motivations or what was going through his head, but it seems (what what I have read/seen) that he A quiet man, loner, recently made unemployed and obviously in a desperate state of mind. It is a sad situation all around, not least for the families of the deceased and injured, and speculation about terrorism and "muslims have done it" (which I have seen in several comments on Yahoo Answers) really don't help
