Pulled over and given a ticket for this! Seriously!?

So friday morning I was drivng to Logan, in the left lane. The speed limit was 75 mph, but I was going 80, trying to keep up with the "flow" of traffic, but really couldn't considering they were going 90 mph or above. I get pulled over, but a rather ignorant cop. He says " Do you know why I am pulling you over" and I did not have a clue, so I answered back no. He gave me this smuggish look like I was stupid and answered this is a left lane violation and you are corrupting traffic. I was boggled! He than continues telling me I am going to slow!!! I got pulled over last month for going to fast, so I have been going the speed limit or five above at all times. He than tells me, your back light is out and that I pulled over on the wrong side of the road, which I did understand I did, accidently. He proceeds giving me a ticket. My question is, was he in the wrong to give me a ticker or am I? I heard you are only supposed to go 2 mph over in the left lane, and I was going fivemph over, and it was not a carpool lane. I am going to try and fight the ticket. Do you think I should? Reasoning is because if I get anymore points I will have my license suspended, and I don't think it is right to give me a ticket for abiding by the law. I was not willing to put my self or others in danger by speeding, the speed limit is the speed limit, which should be obeyed but everyone.

Oh by the way, on the ticket he stated I needed to have my back light fixed in fourteen days, or I would be paying a fine. I went home and checked with my fiance which light was out, and guess what! None of them were. So I will take it into the shop and have them write something up saying they are not.

I am in Utah, and the law is that you must be going 2 mph to drive in the left lane. I was going five, and with my luck, if I were to be going six, I would have been pulled over. It was not the same cop twice, but I went a year with out a ticket, and when I did recieve a ticket, I stopped being in such a hurry all the time.

well you were going over the limit, so you really werent abiding by the law. i dont get that part...

if you were going with the flow of traffic, then i think the guy is just being a douche. i think he should have given you a warning, and thats all.

i would try and fight it though, just make sure you go prepared. was anyone in the car with you? do you have a witness?

i'm sure the judge will let you go for the light, so no worries there.

Yes I agree about the speed limit being the speed limit. BUT, you should never impede traffic just because you want to force everyone behind you to obey the law. Get over to the right lane like the law states: Slower Traffic Keep Right. Doesn't matter how fast you are going or how much faster than the speed limit you are going. If the officer feels you were impeding traffic, then you probably were. In your case, I would probably just fight it, because most of the time the ticket is reduced in court if not overturned. Either way, no matter how much faster you are going according to the speed limit, just get out of the way and stay to the right. It will make things allot easier, and this would have probably never happened. =D

You're only suppose to go on the left lane if your passing up a slower car. Not just cruze in it .

Cops seem to like to just take a shot at you like he did with the light. I had a cop pull me over for going too fast and then when I showed him my insurance he said I needed to make sure I had my updated insurance. Well after he left I looked at it it was totally my updated one and he was just trying to intimidate me. I always keep my latest insurance in my glove compartment but he just had to take a shot at me like that.

I have nothing against cops, but some of them are arrogant. Fight the ticket and be prepared for court with all the evidence you can gather. Be polite and dress professionally. If you can find out what day the officer is off duty see if you can get that day for court, he's likely not to show for court and your ticket will possibly be dismissed. If the officer does show up to court, be prepared to question him. Don't be intimidated by him. You don't really need a lawyer in court for this type of ticket so represent yourself, but find a lawyer in advance that has a free consultation and get advice from him on what questions you should ask the officer to prove your case.

If you are driving slower than the flow of traffic, you are creating an unsafe condition.

If you are NOT the "fast traffic" you have no business being in the left lane.

You will not win this ticket. Talk to a lawyer, but you will not win.

Your best bet is to talk to the magistrate. He won't take away the fine, but he CAN remove the points that go with it so your insurance is not effected.

I dont know, but if the cop that pulls you over feels like you are being "difficult" with him, then he would most likely give you a ticket for the smallest thing. Tickets that they normally ignore.

I was stopped once cause my car looked "suspicious" or should i say, cause i was Mexican! lol

hmm i remember i gave this cop a mean look once while he was driving by, he then did a u turn and stopped me. He gave me a ticket for tinted windows. When he was writing it, i pointed out two cars that were parked, since they had tinted windows but he said that the owners where not there, so i pointed at this car that was at a stop light but he said he would not be able to catch up with him. Bleh.

It depends on your local laws. In IL, you cannot drive in the left lane unless you're passing someone. So, if you are going the speed limit, but holding up traffic, I can see why you might get a ticket for "holding up traffic."

When the cop said your back light, he may have been referring to the light above your license plate. My brother was pulled over for just that (he got a warning); one of my friends was also pulled over for that light (ended up getting a DUI). Obviously when you turn off your lights, that light goes out too. Make sure your mechanic checks that if he hasn't already.

Regarding the speeding violation...I can't help you there, but if you are looking at a risk of losing your license because of this ticket, then yes, you should fight it.

The system is corrupt and you will not win. They want that money. When it comes to money you will not have rights. Of course you were done wrong but the cop needs to make money for the system. You can try to protest but you may not win. If you do try then good luck.

yes, i would definitely fight the ticket, why shouldn't you? sounds like the cop was a real #$%^&@! sounds to me like you didn't do anything wrong accept pulling over to the wrong side!!

if you can afford it, you can pay more in fines to reduce the points, but i would definitely fight it first!!

most people dont want to take the time or effort to go to court and fight it this is way cops get away with what they do...

i say fight it tooth and nail and when you go wear a suit, be very polite and NICE, don't be nasty or anything like that, kill the judge with kindness......show respect......
