my probation does not require a probation officer, i want to take a little vacation out of the country. Im wondering if i have to ask permission to leave ?

Don't take any answers from here. Nobody but you stands to get in trouble over this.
I'm not entirely clear on what your situation is. If you're on what's sometimes called a "bank" caseload (your case is assigned to a probation office, there's just nobody supervising you), then check with the probation office.
If you're on what's sometimes called summary or court probation, check your probation documents or call the court. |

Yes you must always ask permission to leave the state/county while on probation/parole. Whether you are supervised or unsupervised. You may not get caught for not asking however you risk getting caught by having any contact with police. That includes routine traffic stops. Most likely your PO will request that you send proff of where you will be. For example, I was asked before to send a postcard to my PO while at a work conference out of state. I also had to tell my PO when I was leaving, where I was staying and when I would return. My suggestion is tell them everything. It's just safer that way. |
