i need help, i've been so scared about this.
about five years ago i was in a party stage and got into trouble and i got a felony. not a bad one. property damage. anyways..i have been paying a fine for quite sometime. about a year later i got a no insurance ticket and didn't go to court for certain reasons. i know i should have went!! anyways it's been about two years... i couldn't pay on my fine for the felony so they issued at warrant which i have to go down and pay five hundred dollars to not go to jail which i want to pay tomorrow. i'm scared they are still going to arrest me. will they look up anything else in other counties. i'm also going to take care of the other one but the money for it has to wait a couple weeks. since all this happened i've changed my life around and i'm married with a one year old daughter and have not been in trouble and quit drinking. i've been a stay at home mom. what should i do? this has been on my mind for a long time. the police department i'm going to go pay the money to tomorrow told me i had to be there to sign papers and it's 500 dollars. do you think they will still arrest me after paying the money?
please no rude responses .. i know i've really messed up and scared to death over this and im scared to death over not seeing my daughter if they arrested me. please someone help.

The best thing to do is just follow their instructions. When you make your payment, the warrant should be recalled (this is how it works in most jurisdictions, and I'd be surprised if there was one that didn't follow this method).
While there is always a possibility they would run a warrant check, they'll most likely ask you if you have warrants anywhere else, or run you through NCIC (National Crime Information Computer)
NCIC will return results for you only if you have been listed into the index by an agency... usually it's for felonies only, and depending on how far away that agency is from the one you're paying your fines at, they may not even extradite you.
Line your ducks up, and get your fines taken care of if at all possible. Most places will even let you set up payment plans, so try to take advantage of that. The warrants will be re-called, and in time you'll have nothing to worry about. Keep in mind, however, if you halt payments they may re-issue the warrants, with the bond amounts on the warrants adjusted to reflect your payments.
I.E. You had a warrant out for $544. You've made a payment of $44. If you halt payments, the new warrant will set your bail/bond amount to $500. |
