Questions about reckless driving?

well i got pulled over doing 90 in a 65..i know i ****** up bad and i really wont ever do that again..but anyways i just wanna know what do u think my fine will be if im conficted with this..the only thing i got from the cop was a paper for me to show up at court..and do u think its a good idea to take driving improment befour i go to court.. will this help me???? and should i get a lawyer? please help

Having had a RD in VA myself..I would say you don't necessarily need a lawyer. Go to court - dress nice - be apologetic (sincerely)- address the Judge properly.

Hopefully you got this before the new law was instated, mandating a heftyyy fine for reckless driving/DUI.

The DMV will make you take a driving class if you're a minor.

My friend was doing 75 in a 55 and ther ticket was a couple hundred dollars, and she had to go to traffic school. depends on where you were speeding and if you have tickets already. she had no priors.

Anything more than 20 miles an hour over the speed limit is considered reckless driving in almost every state. As you stated above this type of charge requires you to show up in court to answer to the charges. You should absolutely get a lawyer to represent your interests and he/she will advise you of what to do next. If you have no prior tickets or arrests you will most likely be assessed a fine of several hundred dollars and be allowed to keep your drivers license.

For the best results I would clean up for your court date (cut your hair, shave and put on a suit), admit what you did and that you understand it was a mistake, show the judge the utmost respect and apologize. Next I would ensure that I never stood before that judge again.

I wouldn't do anything regarding driving lessons or traffic school prior to your court date. Good luck.

VA state police, also known as the Road Gestapo. If you've never gotten a ticket before, this would be a good time to A. get a lawyer, and B. take that improvement class. Like i said, if it's your first, you'll want to hit it as heavy as possible with your defense to drop it as low as it can go. You don't want to start a bad-driving record, ESPECIALLY in VA. If it's not your first ticket, forget the lawyer, might as well take the improvement class and hope for the best. Fine'll prolly be in the middle hundreds. In the future, never go above 79, as above that is reckless in VA.
