Does anybody know of any real-life criminals who left police stumped, was impossible to find, and basically went toe-to-toe with police and won?
Or are these sorts of super-criminals left only to the movies?
These things fascinate me.

DB Cooper.....the only person to ever hijack an airplane and get away with it. No one was hurt and he made off with millions of dollars never to be heard from again. Books have been written and movies have been made, but still no one has ever found him. I believe his caper took place in the 70s or 80s. |

Jack the Ripper comes to mind.
There are many unsolved crimes out there. I would guess there are few where the criminal purposefully went toe to toe with detectives as the purpose is usually to get away with the crime and not get caught. |

I know of some people that have pulled off some burglaries that still have the police stumped. The police cannot figure out how they got in or how they got the stuff out. Not only did this happen once, but about 6 times. Police think it is an inside job, but it is not. Crime has gone unsloved for 8 years now! |

yeah they are out there. theres been people who escaped prison and went to canada and mexico, theres been alot of mob memebers who fled the country never to be sceane agains. i dont know name. google it |

You wont find any in this day and age. The best one would be the Zodiac Killer but he only made it as far as he did because they didnt have the criminal investigation tools they have now days. If he would have been around today they would have found him in a heartbeat.
So if you are looking around for real ones that arent just in movies go back in time. |

I think there are some of these types out there. Most would be in the area of computer crimes, or possibly art theft. There was a massive bank fraud recently (I think in France) and there have been some huge art heists as well.
All of these would require some very intelligent and cunning criminals |
