Really confused please help!!!!!!?

ok so my boyfriend got pulled over in his moms car for speeding on 3/18/09. There was no insurance in the car. We live in ohio, and he paid for the ticket before the court date. It was $95. The cop told us that if he pays before the date then he doesnt need to show proof of insurance. BTW, his mom doesnt know that this happened. Well anyway he just got a letter in the mail saying he needs to provide insurance or his license will be suspended by 5/19/09-8/13/. How is this possible? Someone please helpp!! He is just going to ask his mom for his insurance and mail it to the people.

The officer is correct. If one pays the fine before court date one does not have to go to court. What was not asked or stated was there are people in the DMV office that view these tickets. The state law requires you to have insurance. If you went to court paid the fine you are still not off with the state DMV. The best thing to do is get insurance and send proof of it to the state DMV. If you do not do this right away they will take your driving priviledges away and you will have to show proof of insurance for a period of 5 years before getting it back. Also there is a large fee to get the licence re-instated. My 2 son in laws went through this at a cost of $850.00 by the time they were done. Just because they were being stubborn. One of them just got his back 3 days ago. Act fast.

Sounds like you answered your own question.

The Police don't know everything - if an officer tells you something about a procedure outside of his powers it is only an opinion and could very well be wrong. I've never heard of a ticket where you did not have to prove insurance no matter when you pay it.

no if he pays before.........then he doesnt have to go to court. u have to have ur car insured or pay the dmv fee.

The officer should not have told you that you did not need to appear in court for no proof of insurance. It is a nation wide complimented law, that if you are pulled over and have no proof of insurance that you must appear in court with proof of insurance at the time and current.
