Courts sentence offenders after they are found guilty.
Officers do not punish anyone, they record information, file the complaint & paperwork and turn it over to the District Attorney's office for prosecution.
Shoplifting is usually considered a minor offense and will most likely result in a fine & probation. |

You have no respect for yourself or others I think you should get 1 yr of community service and that should be done at the place you shoplifted from. Then you need to take counseling sessions to learn how to respect others and yourself. |

Do you realize that when you steal from stores it causes the prices to go up for the rest of us? Don't shoplift that is just stupid.
They will probably give you community service.
I think they should make you stand in front of the store you shoplifted from with a sign that says, "I stole from here". |

Depends on the value of the product you stole...In most states, it's 40+ hrs. of community service, writing an apology letter, doing jury duty, and sometimes a fine and court fees. Do it a second time and it's jail, a third time is longer jail time with your choice of Big Bobby or Anal Andy...:) |

Alot will depend how you act, and what your parents and/or guardians say and do.
They want you to be sorry for this, not sorry you got caught but sorry and learn a lesson, Next they want parents not to be mad at the system for catching you, but mad at you for what you did and wanting to punish you at home.
There is no limit on what they can or can't do, they can declare you a deliquent and send you to a boot camp, put you in custodial care for an amount of time, put you in foster care for a while, put you on probation, make you wash police cars, and of course pay back any money you owe for anything you stole, plus a fine. |

A fine or community service. I hope you learned your lesson. |

I think it should depend on your attitude. Are you sorry that you did the crime or sorry that you got caught? I think whatever the penalty is, it should encourage you to cease and desist from criminality. |

In CA, officers under 830.1 has some discretion for juveniles. However, if the store signs a complaint, they have no choice but to make the arrest. An intake officer? If you are referring to the correctional officer at the jail, they have no authority as far as punishment goes (if you really don't like you, they can put you in with the Arian Brotherhood or BGF -- but I have never seen that happen).
For a first time offense, I have usually seen 6 months probation, community service. Perhaps a small fine and restitution. If you are an ******, then expect greater punishment. |

show remorse for your crime, write an apoligy to the victims and you should/could walk away with only a warning or an official caution.
It depends on where you are, and the local laws, some countries take LARCENY more serious than others! |

So you are one of those that cost me more money when I shop. Also it cost your parents more. You don't think that the company is going to lose money, they pass on the theft by crooks to us buyers. I hope you learn your lesson. Wait until you can afford. Have pride in yourself. Its not cool at all don't care what your so called friends say. If you are serious maybe just maybe they make take it a little easy on you. |

they don't come up with punishment, the court decides that. Considering you're a juvenile, if proven guilty you might get either lots of community service or some time in Juvenile Hall. |

Well lets hope you've learned your lesson. Stealing will get you put in jail. You will prob. get off with a slap on the wrist this time but not next time. |

Community service? |

Probably six months probation and some community service. Do the community service and your slate is wiped clean. You will get visits from a probation officer at your school and at home. Keep you nose clean and you will be alright. |

I am curious, what did you try to steal? Take a lawyer to help you if you can afford it. Be humble, you were on the wrong.
I am not a specialist but I think that you might get fine and community service...you might lose your driver's license if you have it...but try your best if they can take this incident away from your records. They do that to big crimes even. And do not take from anybody what is not yours. Not even a small thing. |
