Saw a police officer break traffic law when not in pursuit. What can I do ?

The other day i saw a police office make an illegal left turn across a simulated island into a jack in the box. Since a few years ago I got a ticket for doing that exact thing I felt that he should be punished as well. Since I obviously cant give a ticket to him what can i do?

I guess i should have been a little more specific. He turned across the simulated island and pulled into the drive though window at the jack in the box to get lunch. It was obvious he was not going to a scene with his lights off. Just lunch. I find this as a matter of principle, they enforce the law by the book so they should obey the law as well. This was a clear injustice to what that officer represents. It just bothers me that an officer can write a hundred tickets for crossing a simulated island, then do it himself while on duty.

Just because he wasn't in "pursuit" doesn't mean he wasn't going to a high priority call. We don't always have to use lights and sirens to get to a destination fast. I suggest you mind your own business and let the police do their job.

You can't do anything. If you want to ticket people for doing that, become a cop.

You can call the police department if you have the car number; but they're not going to give him a ticket on just your word. Its the same if you saw anybody else do it. They will not issue tickets just because someone saw someone disobey a traffic law. And as people have already said - he does not have to have lights and sirens on everytime he is going to a call. So you really have no clue what he was actually doing do you?

You don't know he wasn't responding to a call. Most calls I respond to I want to sneak up. We don't respond with lights and sirens like in the movies.

Unless you have the patrol car number (should be displayed some where on the vehicle), there isn't much you can do.

If you did have the unit number though, you can contact the police department with the unit number, date, and approximate time and file a complaint.

Outside of that, there isn't much you can do.

You have no idea weather he/she was responding to a call. And anyways it's probably not worth it. You don't have any proof of this, and they department is most likely to not even bother trying to do anything about the turn, because first off the officer could've been chasin someone or responding and second even if he wasn't responding we all make mistakes, even the police, and the department can't really do any thing even if they wanted to, because there is no real evidence. Life's not always fair, we make mistakes, some with punishment some with out, it's irritating but true and i understand ur frustration

just because the siren and lights aren't on, doesn't mean that he/she isn't responding to a call or potential emergency.. think before you ***** to your local police, they could have just saved someone's life and your pointing out a mere traffic violation

Get his car number call his tour supervisor and report him and file a complaint. If your really ballzy flag him down tell him what you witnessed and you wish to file a complaint with his supervisor. They will bring down the tour super tell him to issue a citation on your behalf and you are willing to testify.

That's irritating, I know. Best to do nothing, though. No one ever said things in this world are "fair" -- they're not. So, you broke the law and got a ticket for an illegal turn. A police car doing the same thing doesn't make your turn any less illegal. Pay the fine and be glad you don't have to go to work every night and put your life on the line.

Correct, that is not right.....call the police department tell them the date and appr. time they did this and where.....they shld b able to know which officer was on duty and whatnot
