Schools searching contents of phones?

ha! my school does that too! You want to hear something funny?

At my school when you have your phone out during class, they take it, and make your parents have to pay 15 dollars to get it back.....now dosent that sound like stealing?

i got suspended because i had my phone numbers, pics and messeges on lock and i refused to give them the code lol. And my parents had to pay to get the phone back lol

Its dumb how all schools focuses on is the dress code and confiscating cellphones and ipods, when they should be more focused on teaching us.....No wonder why kids get arent learning as much these days......The point of school is just to babysit kids untill they are 18

Well the people that are running the schools are in effect private citizens. Private citizens don't get warrants and don;t violate search and seizure laws. Your parents probably have a contract with them, giving them persmission to search the phone. The contract is in the admissions policy. Look at you handbook, it probably list the things they have a right to do. Or drop by the office and ask for the info.

I do believe schools today take things a bit too far. I'm not in favor of most of the silly things our schools do to our students.

When I was in school we didn't have cell phones,why do you need to have a phone in school? and if you had it out in class that's disruptive, and yes it should be confiscated. And to the poster above who mentioned " they should be teaching us" If you are playing with a cell phone in class then you are being taught nothing because you are not paying attention,leave your phone at home.

Schools have the authority to keep you in compliance with the administrative regulations of the district.
The phone you have may have been yours, but when at school, it is on school grounds and subject to be searched, to see what you are up to, legal or illegal.
You are school property.
Lock it they can tell you to unlock it or lose it.
Your rights ended when you went to school with the phone, most schools have rules and regulations covering the use of phones, the same as hospitals do.

They can totally take it and go through it, along with your backpack!!! They cant MAKE you do anything but they can threaten you with suspension. Some girls naked photos got put up all over the school and everyone knew I hated her. They search my phone and found...nothing because it wasn't me. (the girl was a bi**h everyone hated her I just told her to her face) I was involved in the senior prank but they didn't get my face on the camera so they wanted to search my car and backpack. I said no but they ended up searching my backpack but they couldn't find my car ha ha. When you are in school you have NO rights. You just have to deal with it.
