Sending prison letters to a prisoner?

Are you talking about English prisons. I can tell you quite categorically that staff treat prisoners mail with the utmost respect. They never deliberately delay mail. If an incident sets off in a jail, say a major disturbance, or even when a couple of prisoners are taken seriously ill and require outside hospital, the demands on staff can mean the staff doing mail have to be redeployed, this will delay mail, but because we know how important mail is to prisoners we try never to delay its process. Contrary to some comments officers respect mail and respect that the families of prisoners want to keep in touch and vis versa. There is no point in messing about in such an important and sensitive area. Why would an officer upset a prisoner deliberately then that same officer has to deal with the problem ?? mail not correctly addressed is dealt with last. So you must put the prisoners full number and the wing he is on otherwise it is delayed until they find him. A number of prisoners have the same name so staff must make sure they dont send the letter to the wrong person. This takes time. Frankly I would steer a mile from a boy/man who ends up in prison. I know Jeremy Kyle is making it fashionable but surely you can do better with your time.

There is no set time when your letter will arrive. Prison officials do things when they want. My fiance' is incarcerated and he doesn't always get his letters in a timely manner, it just depends on when it gets there, who's responsible for sorting the mail, and when they decide to give it to the inmate. Some of them delay the process because they want to be nosy and read your letter.

On the other hand, your ex may not have written back yet, or may not have the funds for stamps/envelopes, or perhaps he's been transferred somewhere, or there could be a delay on letters being sent out for whatever reason. There are many possibilities. Just be patient. I'm sure you'll get a letter soon.
