Your kidding, right?
Its illegal to capture, kill, possess, or in anyway molest or disturb a protected species....
Saving the life of a protected species is not a crime ever. |

Why it is Illegal? Sound like a funny law to me. |

No. If it's illegal to touch them, it's probably also illegal to kill them. So, maybe you just prevented somebody else from breaking the law. The laws are likely there to proctect the gopher turtles and you helped do that. |

I got a snapping turtle out of the road once. He was around 2 feet long and had traffic backed both ways. You did a good thing. |

It's a matter of 'intent'. When you touched the turtle, did you do it with criminal intent? No, you saved its life! good for you: what ever God you believe in protects those who look after its little creatures.pboy |

If it's illegal to touch gopher turtles it's probably because they are kind of endangered, or something like that. So if you had left it there you probably would have done something worse, aka let it die. |

I am not quite sure where you live; however you did not pick him up and put him ON the road.. you did what you felt was right to keep him from danger.... if people did that ALL of the time..the world would be a better place.
Thank you for being kind and thank you for noticing that sometimes nature needs a little boost.
Now, if the law is set up because of disease of possibility of being bitten.. etc., then make sure to keep yourself safe; however I do not think you did anything wrong.
The Gopher Tortoise is not like the Snapping Turtles we have here.. so I think you should be fin.
What state or city has this law?
I wish you well. |

Interesting, on the one hand you save a turtle (commendable) yet on the other hand you pollute our environment with your internal combustion four-wheeler, you trample our pristine wilderness with tires made from deforestation of rubber trees. the noise pollution from those four-wheelers is destroying the hearing of millions of wild animals, and you were probably riding without a helmet. And all you talk about is saving one turtle??? --- I jes keeeding. Good job. that was a very nice thing you did. |

Yes, youre a criminal......definately turn yourself in......and go back and get the turtle as evidence. |

I actually had a similiar situation. But I killed hit an eagle with my car. The thing fell out of nowhere!! It was stuck in my grill and I didn't notice it until the next day. I then found out that it was illegal to kill, capture, or posses any part of this endangered animal. I was nervous, but call the police. After I told the officer what happen he told me to throw the eagle in the trash. That was it! |
