Here's what happened, a friend of mine had a court date and didn't show. We were looking at his online court records, trying to see if there was a warrant or if he was held in contempt of court or anything, and that's what it said.

Abstracts are, generally, print-outs of warrants from other jurisdictions. Without much more info, I would guess the following happened:
The sheriff's department found someone who came up with an out-of-area warrant when they ran his name. Then, dispatchers call the originating agency to confirm the warrant and request an abstract. The originating agency looked for the hard-copy of the warrant and couldn't find it or discovered the warrant was already served. |

I don't know what the "sheriff's request for abstract" refers to (sounds like a quote from a headline), but "moot" means there is nothing that needs to be decided. It has become a non-issue for one reason or another.
