Shoplifting...returning items?

If a police officer calls someone for shoplifting and says if they don't have the items stolen then don't worry but if they do bring them to him when they meet. what happens if you don't have them? is it worse?? or should the person bring them if they do? What if the person doesnt know what they got caught stealing???

if the person stole multiple times and do not know what they caught on tape.

Either way, they can be charged with stealing, but if the items are returned, some stores will not prosecute because they just want their stuff back. If you don't have the stolen items not only will you get charged, but the store will contact their attorneys and make demand for civil recovery, which is usually 3 times the retail value of the merchandise plus attorney fees. I would return the stuff, it looks better all the way around. And what do you mean by " what if they don't know they were caught?" It doesn't matter. They must have gotten the person on video or recognized them, etc.

You know what you stole. So take back what you stole. But I would only meet them at the station and have them issue a report for the items you returned. They wouldn't be calling you if they didn't have reason to suspect you. They don't call people out of the blue.
