Kohl's likes to file civil demands for shoplifters. This means they can sue you for three times the cost of the item, plus reasonable court costs. He will probably get a bill for several hundred dollars.
This would be in addition to any fines he gets from court if the police were contacted. |

Maybe he/she could try to get into a diversion program. I'm sure Kohls is going to try and get as much $$ as they can. They already like to overprice their stuff WAY WAY TOO HIGH...who is calling who a thief. They don't deserve my hard earned $$. I bought two $28 tank tops and the next week the straps broke on both of them. They are so cheeseball. |

Someone I know shoplifted from Deb and an employee saw her walk out with what she stole. They banned her from the store from a year and she went to the police station, where she had the mug shots taken. Fortunately she did not have to go to court, but she refuses to go into Deb anymore although it's been almost two years. But since your neighbor stole seventy five dollars worth of merchandise, there would be a more serious consequence, like jail or community service to pay back the cost. |
