Should I Fight This Traffic Ticket?

This morning I was pulled over by a policed officer. I had no clue what for. The first thing he said to me was, "It sorta seemed like you didn't really come to a complete stop at that intersection." I gave him my License and everything and he came back with a $172 ticket for Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device. I told him that I stopped and asked him why he gave me a ticket if it only "sorta seemed like I didn't really come to a complete stop". He never answered and instead started talking about how 4 tires need to come to a stop for at least 3 seconds.
Keep in mind it was at 5:00 am and completely dark.

Should I fight this?

Sounds like a great learning experience for you, how the court system works and it will only cost $172 and court costs.

No matter his terminology, you cant win this, theres no witnesses, *unless you have access to tape from a video somewhere, city owned or at a place of business.
Id request traffic school take it pay the fines and keep your ins company from finding out, its more than the ticket, its the monthy fees added on for teh next few years of your ins which is what really costs. Mines 15 a month times what 3 or 4 years?

Don't bother fighting. You were in the wrong.

STOP means stop, not roll across. If there's a white line you have to stop behind it. If the cop says that you didn't come to a complete stop then the court would accept that you failed to stop.

Sounds like he's a strict officer- but you probably did a rolling stop- and it's for safety reasons- stopping completely allows you time to look both ways and know you aren't pulling out in front of anyone.

I would say, if you wanted to fight the officer based on his refusal to define what you did- you'd be within your limits to do so- but you will probably just have to pay the ticket, but get the officer to flat out tell you "rolling stop" or "incomplete stop".

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS FIGHT YOUR TICKETS! There is a chance they cop won't show up and if he does and you talk to him before the hearing, he might be willing to lessen the fine. It doensn't matter whether you did it or not - our court system is cautionary tale of no justice in the world, so you shouldn't feel bad. Take it from someone who has been on the wrong end of the law and been innocent.
