Should I appeal my parking ticket?

I'm sorry, but I'm going to come off as an ignorant kid I'm assuming. But I am really poor and don't have the money to pay this recent parking ticket I got! I drove to class one day when it was raining and cold, and parked in the parking lot by a park, "Park visitors only." I only needed to go to a quick class, and when I got back, I had a 50 dollar parking ticket smacked on my windshield, saying that my decal wasn't hung up.

I'm thinking of signing the guestbook at the park office so it'll look like i've been there, then getting a park decal from the main office, and just telling the police department I plain forgot, when appeals come up. Is this even worth appealing... or will they see through it?

I'm betting many have tried that before, and the judge will have heard it. If your plan doesn't work, your problems will be much greater. The judge is not going to appreciate being lied to. You could be found in criminal contempt, or charged with perjury if you are under oath.

There is an old adage... "If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging". Your plan has the potential to create a much bigger hole.

Requesting to make small payments over time will ease the financial burden, and allow you to keep your integrity.

I am pretty sure they will see right through it because they probably get a lot of students who try to park there; hence the sign and the enforcement.

Pay the fine and learn your lesson.
You took a chance and you lost, you are not going to beat the ticket in court.

Pay the parking ticket, Darling. If you should try to appeal the ticket and loose; the fine will be greater, and you will have to pay court costs, and maybe attorney's fees on top of the $50.00 fine that you already owe. Is there an expiration date on the ticket? Do you get a pay check before the expiration date? If so pay it as soon as possible; if you fail to pay the ticket before the expiration date, the court judge will put a warrant out for your arrest; and you will end up in jail with even more fines, court costs and attorney's fees.

Don't bother appealing. There is absolutley no way you will win. The court can make out a payment plan if you are unable to come up with the $50 up front.

*Definitely appeal it. I came upon this question because I as a student a Purdue University now have 3 parking tickets in the past week and I'm going to appeal them all! We get so many here that they end up appealing alot of them. I would go with your plan! If they don't believe you, then you have to pay it. No one gets hurt. Type out a letter.. that's what we have to do anyways.. don't write it. I heard that if you turn in the letter usually the court officer never shows up and you either get the appeal or go before student court who usually appeal it.

They will absolutely see through it. You have zero case. fighting it will only get court costs ADDED to your fine. Pay it and don't do it again, that is literally your only option.

Ps - and this is the first time I've ever seen this question where everyone's answer was correct. A first!!

It doesn't matter if they will see through it or not. You must have integrity...that means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. If people don't have integrity, how can we trust anybody in this world? I'm sorry you got a parking ticket. I was there once. In college, broke all the time, and getting stuck with an unexpected fine. But you should just pay your fine and learn from it. Even if you got a park decal and parked there to go to class, you're still not being honest, b/c the sign says park visitors only and that's not what you'd be doing.
