I haven't seen my neighbors (a woman in her 40's, her boyfriend, and her adult son) for several weeks although all of their vehicles are in the driveway. The thing is, though, that there has been NO activity at that house for about 3 weeks and all of the blinds are drawn. We are not close and the woman doesn't like us (we called the cops for a disturbance call about a year ago because her dog kept barking all night and by 3am my husband and I couldn't sleep so we called the cops to have them ask her to keep the dog quiet). Anyways, I just recently noticed this past week that there hasn't been any activity over there, and that's not normal. I originally figured that they were out of town for the holidays but something just really feels wrong and I can't shake it. I don't want to intrude in their lives and make them any more pi$$ed off at us for calling the cops but I really am concerned. I haven't smelled anything bad (as morbid as that sounds) and we haven't heard anything unusual (like gunfire, etc.) so I don't know if I should just ignore my feelings or call the cops to have them check the house. If I call them, can I do it anonymously so that the neighbor won't know that it was us that called? We have lived here for 2 years and the mom has gone to visit her boyfriend (he lives about 2 hours away) but the son has stayed at the house while she is away. I really need some advice about what to do, if anything. Thanks.

That's the thing...I don't know if they are on vacation or not but, based on their normal behavior over the last 2 years, I don't think that they are on vacation. The boyfriend used to be really friendly but for the last few months he has been very standoffish (for lack of a better word) and has just been acting odd. I don't want to overreact and cause any embarrassment but I also would feel beyond horrible if something WAS wrong and I just stayed quiet about it. My husband is of the opinion that we need to leave it alone but I can't express the nagging feeling I have that something is wrong (and, no, I'm not the type to get in everyone's business and/or a drama queen).

Can you tell if their mail is piling up? If someone is on vacation, they probably would have had the post office hole their mail while they were gone. If something is wrong, it is not likely someone thought to stop the mail. It doesn't hurt to let the cops know your concerns. It isn't like you are going to get your neighbors in trouble by calling the cops out of your concern. |

take them some cookies or something. tell them you wanted to wish them a happy new year. if they don't answer then you can remain anonymous and inform the police to notify family for any information. |

dial *67 and dial your neighbors number immediately after. this blocks your number and if they have caller id or press *69 after you call, your number will not come up. as far as being anonymous with the police, they will see your name and address as soon as you call them. i have tried to be anonymous before with the police and it didnt work out the way i planned |

Just call. The police will keep your name out of it. This is farily routine for them. |

I'd stop by and knock on the door to check on them in person first. You never know - they might be glad you were concerned. If they don't answer, call the police. |

Why dont you stop being a nosy housewife and mind your own business. You watch way too much TV to be thinking they are dead or killed each other. Even if you call the cops anonymously they will know it was you since you called the last time.
If you really care then bake some cookies and take them to the house, when they open the door just say we haven't seen you guys around for a while and just wanted to make sure you are ok. |
