Should I pay a speeding ticket in NC?
Find answers to your legal question.

Should I pay a speeding ticket in NC?

I got a ticket in NC for speeding. 70 on a 55. (I thought I was on a 65) Should I just pay the ticket or get a lawyer. Ticket is $150. If I pay the ticket, will it show up on my FL record? I rather try and not have it show on my driving record. Will a lawyer really have it dismissed?

People, don't misunderstand me. I am not saying not to pay the ticket or not do anything at all. I just want to know, what is my best option. Pay it, or fight it. Most people tell me that if you get a lawyer, they are always successful. They know the law, regular people don't. Any lawyers out there?.

North Carolina does not report tickets to your home state unless the violation results in a suspension. Consult with an attorney before making a decision.

Contact Thomas K. Simpson, he's an attorney in NC that has one of the best success rates in the state. I've worked with many times and it has alway been pleasant, AND inexpensive for the offender. He is a former DA, so he knows both sides of the law very well. His phone number is 704-617-4116. Even if you do not want to use a lawyer, he is very knowlegable and willing to explain the situation and your options to you far better than anyone here on Yahoo! Answers. Half of these people make up what they say, and most of the rest of them do not really know.

Ask to be able to go to driving school some agencies have an on line class.

Just pay the fine.

It would depend on what you want. A lawyer may cost you more then the speeding ticket.

Hiring a lawyer for a speeding ticket is a bit of an overkill. The chances are the cops aren't lying when you were speeding. They have good documenting when it comes to testifying how wrong you are.

Just pay the ticket.

You blew it by speeding. Swallow your lumps and pay

I wouldn't hire a lawyer just yet, but I would call and talk to one, just tell him your situation and see of he thinks he can help. Besides, NC doesn't report traffic violations to your home state.

Get a good traffic ticket Lawyer, I always do.
My punishment is usually Drivers Ed and than the charge is dropped after the lawyer and the authorities get their cut.

If you volunteer for John Edwards would he defend you ?

Ask your insurance agent. They may be able to tell you how the out of state ticket would/would not affect your insurance rates.

Most states have a set rate for a speeding fine, and rarely reduce it, only raise it if you admit you were doing it on purpose, etc., in my experience, it is better to pay it, from afar, avoid any argument, you are going to get some kind of points damage to your license, it's a moving violation. An attorney can't do anything about that, there's no plea bargain on DL points. If your insurance goes up, find another insurance company that charges less for your same driving record to insure.

footyboyack
I'd pay it if I were you.

Why would you get a lawyer if your ticket was only $150? Just bite the bullet on the ticket cost. To find a lawyer to "fight" the charges would be more then $150. Besides, it doesn't matter if you "thought" it was a 65MPH zone. You should have been paying more attention to the speed limit signs. And yes, your ticket from NC will show up on your FL record. Just pay the ticket or face big consequences.

Brooke
Yes, it will show up on your Florida record. A lawyer will not have it dismissed. You would have to go to court (in North Carolina) and explain why you feel you should have the ticket reduced. The judge will then decide whether he/she wants to reduce it or not.
