Should I press charges on family members who...?
|
violated my home, broke my things and attacked me..or should I take the high road..through karma? Legally, I have a right but because they are family I wonder if it's worth it? Help me or better yet what would you do?

I feel it is more of a violation with it being family. I would press charges and take it all the way.
My ex-husband was abusive/stole from our home/did drugs/refered to our baby as: "that ******** baby". I called the police and went to court.
My brother stole the speakers out of my car? I called the police.
My sister took my check book and wrote over $300 in checks.
I turned her in.
It is a bad situation when the one that violates you is a family member. THEY chose to cross the boundaries. I have an obligation to the safety of myself and children to protect my home from ANYONE. I feel I did the right thing.
The loyalty to that family member/person was halted (if only temporarily) when they disrespected my home. I have made amends since then. And that is the reason we talk today.
It was a hard road for ALL of us to travel.
But a necessary one....................
My thoughts? Yes take the legal route. Take whatever comes with that. THEY violated YOU. |

You can forgive them, but they committed a crime. Forgiving them has nothing to do with penitence.
They must be punished or they will always believe they can get away with it. |

I would. You can't let them get away with shiit like that or they will probably continue to take advantage of you. |

It really depends on how close you are to the family. I am close to my family, if it were me, i would let it go and just have nothing to do with them. Now, if it were my husbands family (also mine) I would press charges simply because they have alianated me and my husband for the past two years for no apparent reason. My advice to you is to follow your heart. Let your emotions go and remember, other than family, they are just humans. another solution would be to take them to small claims court and sue them for the damage they caused. This might be better in your case. |

What kind of crazy family do you have ? Forget the karma they will get the karma and the karma will be the choice of orange jumpsuits or stripes for their jail uniforms. |

Hell YES, my sister just broke into my home and took some of my things. She broke my window and came in and left my door open! She is only 15 and don't care about herself or others. |

You should decide if pressing charges would help them change their ways. Often times the only way to help someone t to make them pay for their crimes.
You have every right to press charges and request restitution as well from the courts.
Make the accountable for their crimes. |

I have seen to many that will tolerate that sort of behavior and do nothing because it is "Family" or it was a friend and the victim didn't want them to go to jail.
My attitude is I won't tolerate that type of behavior from anyone family or not. I would call the Police and have done so, even on a family member. People need to learn to take responsibility for their actions. |

Honestly, they're your family. If I were you, I would forgive them and by doing so prove that not only you are better than them but it is "heaping coal of fire on their heads" as the old saying goes. Doing the right thing when you've been wronged will make them much less likely to do it again and not to mention that perhaps they will learn. |

If family members violated my home... Me? I'd let it go and distance myself from them.
Broke my things? Same thing.
ATTACKED ME? Oh, I'd press charges, honey! |

I'd say dont let them get by with this crap. If they did it once and you just let them get by with it they will continute to walk all over you. If they really care about you they wouldn't have done something like this in the first place. I would press chages because if you dont stand up for yourself now it will really just get worse. Belive me I've been there. I know it isnt easy to press charges on them. But why do you want to let them walk all over you like this? |

Yes I'd have them treated the way they treated you. |

Do you really want to "air" your family's dirty laundry. Mud will be slung both ways if you pursue this. Change your locks at a minimum if you are unwilling to move. You might want to consider a "restraining order.
Photograph the damage for the future in case you change your mind. |

No, because of the simple fact that they are family...
What your Family Member did was wrong, but dont pursure it legally and blow it up out of proportion in public.
Keep your Family Buisness within the Family...
Just take the rash member aside and privately tell him he needs to calm down, and you're thinking of pressing charges if he doesnt settle down.
Families stick together no matter what... |
