Could you please tell me your views and your reasons on whether common citizens should be allowed to own or buy guns?

The answer is a resounding yes. There are numerous reasons for owning a firearm. From something as simple as hunting for wildlife management to self defense to defending our country against foreign invaders or a tyrannically government, guns are a necessity.
Take a look at Great Britain where they had the bright idea of banning all handguns and most rifles and shotguns. Just today one of the biggest proponents of the ban came out and said the idea was a total failure. Crime is up, way, way up. The criminals still have their guns and the rest of the population is defenseless.
In Washington DC where handguns are banned they have one of the highest crime rates in the country. Banning guns only takes them out of the hands of the law abiding, not the criminals. Do you think that passing another law against drug abuse will stop users from getting their drugs? The same is true about guns. And no gun control law has ever been shown to have any positive impact on crime, while in several instances (like in Great Britain) they are shown to have negative impacts on crime rates.
Its not rocket science to figure out that criminals prefer unarmed victims. |

All citizens are entitled to own a gun if it is used legally for protection, leisure or competition. Responsibility is the important aspect of gun possession. Thus, the government must only allow those who are qualified as responsible gun owners. |

yes they should but there should be some kinds of constraints on it. what i mean is that to own a hand gun you should have to prove that you are capable of using it responsibly. if you take the guns out of the law abiding citizens hands the only people with guns will be outlaws. so law abiding citizens will have no way to defend themselves. "never bring a knife to a gun fight." i say never bring a knife to a knife fight bring a gun. point blank if you come into my home and plan on doing harm to me or my family i will shoot you. if you wanna steal my stuff feel free i have insurance. but you come after me or my girlfriend and i will put you down. people having guns is not the issue. guns do not kill people people kill people. i will leave you with a favorite quote of mine i think it was teddy roosevelt that said it. "an armed society is a polite society." |

Most importantly, the second amendment of our constitution says that we have the right to bear arms. Every American has the right to protect themselves and their property. Why should law abiding citizens not be allowed to have guns while the criminals get guns illegally? |

The constitution says that we have the "right to bare arms". This means we should be allowed to own or buy guns. So my answer would be yes.
Do I think we should be able to walk around in a public place with a gun? No! But should we be allowed to go out in the country and shoot a few rounds into tin cans like me and my dad did when I was younger? OF COURSE.
Also, I think it really depends on the individual. For example, should a 16 years old kid be allowed to own a gun? NO what is he going to do shoot his peers? Should a man with 4 counts of attempted armed robbery be allowed to own a gun? HELL NO!! Should a 80 year old widower who lives alone in the Bronx be able to own a gun? Yes. |

When my dad must travel alone for his work, I am glad he takes a gun with him. He is trained in how to use it and has a permit.
My personal preference is to not own a gun. I struggle with a lot of mental and emotional issues, and a gun in my hand would be the end of me.
But I have no problem with responsible people having a gun. |

Let us keep in mind that guns were engineered to injure and kill. If I am in my home with my family and you knock on the door after say dark you will be met with a gun. If you are legit you will never know if you are not then you get waxed. If I stop to help someone along the interstate and the situation seems funny I will carry my gun you will never know or see it unless your buddies run out of the bushes or you try to assault me with a tire tool then I will wax you. If I am eating at a mall in Utah and I hear gun shots then I will check out the situation if some fool is randomly shooting Innocent people I will wax him. I can go all day listing situations like these and of course my answer is hell yeah we all should exercise our right to carry a gun. If Law breakers know that their victims a packing wouldn't you think twice before you try to grab a purse or kick down a door. This is America where guns are made by the people for the people. |

Yes.
We need our guns to protect us from our government.
Look at us, Russians, - we have no right to bear guns, and we are virtually defenseless against corrupt police, oppressive government and criminals (who ALWAYS somehow manage to get a hold of a gun anyway). |

Yes. If guns were illegal, criminals would still have them. I recieved my first rifle when I completed Hunters Education at age 12. I would hunt if I needed to, and almost everyone I know does hunt. My dad educated my siblings and I on firearms saftey and operation. Guns are dangerous if misused, and if you get a felony (in Idaho), then you lose your right to own a gun. I don't need an AR-15 and an AK-47, but I do plan to own them at least once in my life because they are fun to shoot and the mechanical aspects of a semi-automatic are interesting to me. Guns are also useful for protection. Although not likely to be needed for such a purpose, I wouldn't want to be helpless if a violent/dangerous person were threatening my family's safety. Also, I don't think that the early Americans thought the "right to bear arms" was important for entertainment. They fought to be free of a tyranical government. How successful would they have been without guns? |

yes,, i can,, first, it out right to own one,,, 2th most are not out to use it for a crime, 3th 80 per cent of gun are in the hand of the one that does a crime,,, 4 a gun do kill by it self it the, one behine the gun,,,,5th like me some use it to hunt with, an to keep harm from my family,6th,, you think, by not haveing a gun , they cant do you harm, their are other thing they could use, like knive, bows, clubs, rope,,, so you see a gun is only a tool, use by us |

Absolutely.
It is in our consitition....the right to bear arms. And, I think that our consititution should not be tampered with. It was written with incredible foresight into our countries future, and abiding by what is within it ...is what has made our country great.
I do believe that we should use good sense when owning a gun, too, though.
Also, have you thought about how much of our lives is gradually being ruled by our government? I don't know about you....but, I cherish my freedom! |

As a common citizen , I believe we should be allowed to have firearms in case a bad guy shows up with one and threatens us . |

No-one should be allowed to own guns, they only have one use and that is for killing and maiming. |

The countries which has legalized the use of guns are seen to be on the top of the list of highest crime rates. So, what does that refer to? Doesn't that refer if gun is allowed to be possessed freely then criminal activities increase? Of course yes. So I would like to vote on the against of it i.e. common citizens should NOT be allowed to possess guns. |

Common citizens should not be allowed to own guns. Military can hunt for deer and elk and put in grocery stores like we do with beef. If we get rid of all guns except for police, who undergo daily mandatory psychiatric counseling to make sure they can handle guns properly, then the common citizen would have no need for guns. If all guns were out of the hands of common citizens, we would have no senseless murders; hence crime would drop to an all-time low. I believe common citizens should not be allowed to own guns and the government should come into every person's home and get rid of all guns from the posession of common citizens. |
