Yes they should give people a "brake" on steep hills - groan... |

good argument.
but no i dont think they should be more lenient, due to the fact that some people would take advantage of it. |

You shouldn't pick up THAT much speed going down a hill with your foot off the gas. Seriously.....nice try though.... |

Talk about hair brained ideas. Nice try but what happens when some numpty looses control and takes out a school bus at the bottom of the hill or fails to make a turn?
Any gas he/she saves will be used up by the ambulances, fire trucks and meat wagon from the morgue, not to mention the funeral coaches and the back hoes needed to bury the victims. |

LOL are you serious about this question?? I'm not cruising' around trying to pick up speed coasting downhill breakless only to hope to save gasoline going up the other side...I figure the gasoline crisis isn't really the boys in blue's problem. Only idiotic drivers....never know though if you get pulled over you can tell them your thoughts on the matter and maybe he or she will get a laugh out of it too. But I doubt it.
Maybe you'd get a warning. <wink>

No.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
And when you get busted, don't whine. |

The speed limit is the speed limit. They are just doing their jobs. The limit is put into place to ensure safe driving, it shouldn't be broken to save a few bucks |

They're just doing their jobs bro. The justification for violating the law is weak, such rationalizations always are. Most cops won't pull you over unless you are going15+ over the speedlimit anyway, the ticket amount has to be worth their while. |

Um, no. Speeding is speeding. How much gas will you really save coasting down the hill? Chances are you being a safe driver is more important than that extra 10 cents. |

It's not the cops that make the decisions, it's the courts. The law is what it is, and the cops just enforce it. |

NO cops shouldn't be more lenient because when that happens, everyone expects leniency on everything because they are doing it for one thing. |
|

Soft Talker

I do the same thing when ever I can. But If I get caught preaking the speedimit, I expect to get a ticket. Start at the top of the hill a little slower and you may be OK with the speed thing. Pluss you will save gas on your way up the hill on the other side. Good luck and just go pay your fine. |
|

No, but don't you think that with rising fuel costs that you should drive slower regardless? |
|

totellthetruth8

Since there is a fuel crisis, people should slow down. Fast driving burns more fuel faster causing them to have to fill up more frequently translating to paying out a lot of money for gas. You can't blame the cops on this. They have to follow the law. |

i don't see this as a big issue
firstly, you don't have to brake going down a hill, just take your foot of the gas. secondly, i would hope cops aren't setting up speed traps at the bottom of hills, if they are, that's gutless but i don't think i've ever seen that happen. i think they are already pretty lenient with speeds being higher going down a hill |
|

ghost

No, but they should be more tolerant of others. |
|

Roz

did you ever think to drop a gear going down hill? that's why there are 2 D's on you gear shift. That slows the momentum down. didn't they teach you that when you learned how to drive. |

Officers vary anyway. Some of us are more strict then others. There is no cookie cutter solution for dealing with violations. So if "Officer A" catches you speeding he might write you a ticket when "Officer B" might give you a warning for the same speed "A" would cite you for. We're not machines and it's not like someone can turn a dial and reduce our aggressiveness. |

No they should be more strict. |

let me put it this way. Almost everyone carries cameras these days, at least the little cell phone cameras. Any time you see a cop doing his job, let's get it on camera or video.
The slightest mistep or mistake, let's get it on camera, and nail his/her a$$ to the wall for it. Since they see fit to fine us for trivial traffic violations. Let's shove it back in their face and hold them to an even higher standard. |
|

.. .this can't be good

This would require that they grow a brain and a heart. Not likely to happen. |
