Should i report a stolen GPS and MP3 player from my CAR?

Today i found that my GPS and my MP3 , which i left in the car , stolen. Should i report it to some authority. I am in washington state. Is there a way my GPS can be tracked.

Anytime something like this happens, you should not wait and call immediately. If the suspect is in the area, the police can check and see if he has the items on him.
Most of the time though, it's hard to track down someone who has broken into a vehicle and stolen something unless there is a witness who can identify him.
Your GPS can only be tracked if you report it stolen and someone other than you has it in their possession.
My advice, call the police and have a report taken. What coverage do you have on your insurance? You should be covered for vandalism, if they broke into the car, and some policies cover theft. You can call the insurance company and find out.

A long time ago, I worked at Sears in the credit dept. I used to take stolen credit card reports and would always ask for a police rept no.
" but I did not call the police" they would say. I would advise that they should. they would invariably ask What can they do? My reply was always the same "Absolutely nothing if you do not tell them" You never know that maybe your report is the piece of the puzzle they need to get the perpetrator.
I do not know if a gps device can be located by the satellite. it would depend on weather the device does any transmitting of it's own or is just a receiver. I know some can like on-star maybe they all can, but only if they are turned on. |

I don't know if they can track your GPS. However, you should report the crime. First, if you intend to file an insurance claim you will need the police report. Second, if they do recover your items, how will they know who it belongs to? Third, police use statistics of crime to improve patrols and to request more resources. Fourth, it's possible that this guy stole from other people and they may have a subject in custody or in mind. Adding your theft to it might help catch the guy, maybe even put him in prison. |
