I think it depends on whether they will do any more illegal things after they are released. If they don't yes it will save lots of money but if they keep doing what got them in to start with, then it will cost more money.

I think jails/prisons should be reserved for felons. For misdemeanors, stiff fines and strict probation is enough punishment. So, I say early release for misdemeanor offenses is long overdue. |

It depends on the crime a first offense drug conviction against putting a murderer away..

i say no too because it will cost more money to put them back in prison. Their should be a system, that all prisoner should be given jobs that wont pay them but will help keep the prison system up. |

incarceration should be about rehabilitating someone one cause more than likely they are going to be released out on the streets, so instead of thinking throwing someone in prison for years is helpful to inmate/society get a clue, it's NOT !
people need a reason to change.
people make errors and sometimes need mental help.
people who continuously make bad choices need to learn how to make good choices, they need help, they do NOT know how to do it on their own.
repeat pedophiles and serial killers are the exception, they need to be studied and incarcerated for ever.
life is about changing for the better and when we throw people into prison and use it as a dungeon, it helps no one !
