Should marijuana be legal?

I'm 50. Grew up in the late 60's and early 70's.

For what it's worth, I have never smoked pot. I've been around a lot of people who have.

I have NEVER seen an angry person stoned on pot.
I have seen hundreds of angry drunks after a few beers.

The effects are the same as alcohol practically speaking. Can pot lead to harder drugs? Just as much as alcohol leads to alcoholism and liver disease.

Legalize pot. Control it, tax it. Besides the money made on taxes, consider the money saved by not sending people to jail or prison for pot possesion.

Of course that's the main reason law enforcement types DON'T want it legalized: job security.

The govt. could make a mint out of taxing and regulating it.

The costs and sheer number of incarcerated criminals would drop significantly (would probably result in the closing of prisons).

However as long as private companies run the prisons and Big Pharma cannot make money off of it, mary jane will stay illegal. Not to mention that the alcohol industry is working against legalization.

Yup. Leaves you no worse for wear than alcohol or tobacco. So, as long as those two are legal, I'll contend that marijuana should be, too.

NO ONE has EVER, in the HISTORY of the HUMAN RACE, OD'ed on marijuana so it should be just as legal as ALCOHOL which HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of people OD on each year.

As for KC V: there are countless credible sources to prove that accidents and/or deaths were the result of marijuana use!

Your credibility is in question considering I said no one OD's (<<< keyword stands for OVERDOSE) on Marijuana, which is a FACT!! No one is advocating giving pot to underage children!

The TRUTH is you would have to smoke your WEIGHT in marijuana WITHIN an HOUR to OD (OVERDOSE).

What's the point...as it stands now you can only smoke in your home or on a street away from everyone else. So if pot was legalized you would still have to hide it and smoke secretly so you don't get some health nut screaming at you. Plus I don't know about you guys but I do not want to see "ultra light, 100, slim, double filtered, menthol, joints" for 8 dollars a pack.

Sure, even though it can be dangerous, so can alchohol. The governement can regualte it and give the rights to sell it to the highest bidder. Imagine the revenue that would be made on the taxes.

A recent study by the British Lung Foundation found that just three cannabis joints a day cause the same damage as 20 cigarettes.

However, as your doing that damage to yourself, not to second-hand bystanders, I've no problem with legalization.

If marijuana was legal, half the country would be high, and then we would have the highest death rate in the world!!! America would be a bunch of POT-HEADS!!! Unbelievable! That stuff is dangerous. I'll bet if other countries in the world found out about this, they would ALL come here and smoke it if it was legal, so the immigration problem would grow! I'll bet if we got bombed we'd be like-"ohh, we just got bombed...I guess we'd better do something... but what should we do?" And then they think for like an Hour and a half and then probably die before they can come up with an answer! Why? BECAUE THEY'RE STONED!!! No it should not be legal because the average marijuana user is incapable of making informed decisions on their health. There are many more toxins and cancer-causing agents in marijuana than in alcohol. This would result in an increase of health care costs that will come out of my pocket. I don't feel like supporting a bunch of moron pot-heads.

Wow, there is just way too much material here to show why it should never be legalized.

Funny how people complain that we have so many problems with the legal use of alcohol in society yet have no problem using that as justification for the legalization of yet another dangerous substance prone to abuse.

The problem is, I see what you don't.

Ever see a Doper living in a house or Apt. that doesn't smell like a catbox? has furniture that matches and isn't from the local charity store? has a car that doesn't look like a refugee from the junkyard?

Maybe because I'm getting sick of seeing innocent little kids living like they're in the hills of W.VA because mom and dad are more worried about smoking a bowl than providing the best that they can for these same kids.

The problem with you dopers is that in your never ending quest to get a buzz you never see the reality that it destroys any ambitions you have to better yourself. And there you are, 30-40 years old, working at a job that doesn't require a lot of intelligence and doesn't pay much. Living in squalor and filth.

But why should you care, you can get high whenever you want.

There is a double moral to this, since alcohol which affects your five senses just like marihuana is legal. Does this mean that anything with that type of effect should be legalized? Of course not.

I think cannibis should be legal because in the end the decision is made by the user and by useing the drug they accept the health risks associated with it. Cannibis is a non-addictive and relitivly safe drug that should be legalized.
