You should need a passport to get in a pub or club, if you don't look old enough. If you are caught in a pub under age, the pub should get a 20K quid fine. The bartender should get a 5K quid fine, if the place has door men, they should get 5K quid fine, the underage drinker should get 10K quid fine, and their parents should be responsible to pay it if the kid can't! A few of those passed out, even if you had ID but looked under age, you wouldn't get in. With the state of the drinking culture and increase drink related crime, would that be a bad thing? Same fine should go for stores that sell to underage kids too. 20K or maybe 50K! |

Yes. Someone has to take a stand and try and reduce this problem across the UK. If for no other reason than the health and injury risks these guys put themselves in when they do it ... |

sometimes it's difficult to decide who is underage.
Most 18 yr olds act like 10 yr olds in the presence of alcohol....one reasonm may be because we dont allow people to become 'aquainted' with drinking at an early age (like they do in france, for example) and as soon as they are legal, they go over the top, binge drinking.
simple answer to your question....No |

no, isnt the bars or clubs business to impose fines on anyone. if anybodys at fault its the doormen for letting them get in. photograph them and toss 'em out. then put the pics into a portfolio for the doormen to have on the door. |

Its a tricky one. We have an over 21's bar where I live and it's annoys the hell out of me that during the day they brings their kids in!!! HELLLLOOOOOO! UNDER 21's!!! READ MUPPETS. The parents should have an on the spot fine!! For the underage drinkers - no... they wouldnt be able to afford it and it wouldn't deter them! |

To be honest i HATE underage drinkers. When i walk into a pub i look around and say i have forgot my id or didn't bring it with me because i didn't think i would need it, or left it with a friend etc and i get ID'd and they're like no sorry, you need ID and then i see a girl next to me who i KNOW is 16 coming on 17 with a fake ID... i get so annoyed, my friends went to newquay a few weeks ago and when they went clubbing the bouncers had lazers which they put over the id to see if it was fake or not... i think we should get it everywhere and the answer to your question is no because it will cause to many fights and troubles!! |

They are more likely to fine the landlord and regard the under age drinker as a victim. |

good idea, but some pubs know full well that there are underage drinkers within and don't care has long has they sell the drink and before you know it most of the custom is to them. |

No, Nobody should have fines, on the spot or otherwise because to take away another persons money or goods against their will is by definition stealing. Two wrongs do not make a right.
If young people want to drink they will and no law or older person will stop them by force.
If the law and us older people were to start treating underage drinkers as what they actually are, eg young adults, human beings with a mind of their own. Then we might just get enough respect from them that they might actually listen to our advise and drink sensibly. Many of them certainly don't do that now. |

It wouldn't really be an effective detterent. Also, I've heard from numerous places that it's not particularly well policed. |
