YES!! Most definetly. And I wish they'd change the Highway Traffic Act to make cell phone use illegal also. I have responded to my fair share of MVA's due to careless cell phone use while driving. |

You are supposed to be driving. 4000 pound car at 45mph, and you want to take your eyes off the road and text someone?????????

ABSOLUTELY! It's called "Failure to Give Full Time and Attention" to the operation of a motor vehicle. The cellphone companies are fighting tooth and nail to keep the usage of cellphones while driving legal. |

i think getting in wreck should be a ticket. Whatever causes the wreck, be it texting, drinking sprite or beer, eating or not paying attention should not matter. |

In Washington State we do have Texting While Driving. It's really hard to prove that the driver was actually texting so I have never actually issued a citation for it.
Usually when I see people talking on the cell, and speeding I'll stop them tell them to pay more attention to the road, and they are free to go ticketless. |

I have to say no since I do but some people make it into a HUGE distraction that can cause accidents or close calls |

I think it should be. That is ridiculous to do while you are driving. |

Yes. It's the same as reading a news paper article or using your laptop when driving. You are taking almost the full focus off of driving when you are texting. Those who say there is nothing wrong with it are mostly teenagers still thinking they can do anything while driving. |

It depends where you live and if there is a specific law against it.
If there is no law prohibiting do it while driving does not mean you cannot get a ticket. If you are weaving while texting and a police officer observes this you could be charged with various offences (again depends on the jurisdictional law) from Driving without due care and attention to Dangerous driving. You will defiantly get charged with one of these offences if you had an accident, injured or killed someone while texting.
PS: It would be nice if those asking these kind of questions to advise where they live as the answer can vary significantly from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, country to country. |
