"Young Children" can have a wide range of definitions. When I hear that, I think of children less than ten years old. I think they should not be charged as adults.
The point of the Juvenile Justice system is to rehabilitate the offender, not punish. They should be separated from adults during their confinement. |

No, young children are not adults. The very young do not understand the implications of what they do.
And no, we should not send juvenile offenders to adult prison, that's asinine. |

Children offenders should be put in detention if necessary, but it is cruel to make any kind of long-term jail punishment. And if the child offender was abused, he or she should be given some empathy. One thing leads to another. |

We should try anyone over 13 as an adult and either execute them or focre them to work hard labor for the privatised state.
Seriously, if you take all off someone's opportunities away, how do you expect them to be anything other than criminals?
The general simplistic right wing answer is usually "Well they committed a felony so they're felons" The decision making centres of the brain aren't fully developed until about 22, so a 15 year-old that steals a car doesn't have the same understanding as a 25 year-old.
They need to be sanctioned, yes, but not have the few opportunies they'll have in life to be taken away from them (most who commit serious (street) crimes come from impoverished backgrounds btw) |
