since they're seizing people's cars for far less serious infractions. If he has more than one, then we'll sell the most expensive one, and give the proceeds to the victim's family.

Clearly there is something wrong with your brain. There is no need to "seize" a police car. It already belongs to us. Secondly there is no cover up. In fact, the upper command including to so called chief of police, is tripping over themselves to throw this young officer under the bus.
Nothing this officer did was illegal so there is no need to seize his vehicles. If you were trying to make some rational point, you missed badly.
Side note: Why is it every time you hear of a cop making a mistake or using bad judgement the first thing people want to do is fire the officer and ruin there lives? If we fired every officer for making a bad decision we would have no police officers. In fact if we fired everyone who ever made a mistake on the job we would have a 100% unemployment rate. |

It's true that every employee makes mistakes, however I do think that officers of the law are held at a higher standard than the average citizen. You also need to determine whether it was an isolated incident or if he had prior incidents that could have been questionable.
