Should you have the right to carry a concealed weapon for your own safety. I've been researching this topic for awhile now and would like to know what you think.

I think you should have the right to carry a concealed weapon. I am going for my permit next month and was just wondering what people thought. Also there are states without that right should all 50 states give their citizens this right?

You already do. All you have to do is apply for and get a concealed carry permit.If you have a significant criminal record, chemical dependence, or mental health issues you may be denied this for the reason of public safety. The 2nd Amendment Right is important but does not trump my family's right to be safe and secure. If a criminal wants to carry a concealed pistol that is to bad for the criminal. |

I always wondered why the word concealed should be so important. ( I do have my Concealed Carry permit), I would much rather have my pistol on my belt or in a shoulder holster where it could be seen.

It depends on the citizen. If the person is a crook or a killer, then no. But if the citizen is a responsible person with no legal or psychological issues then ok. I carry, and I have a permit. But I am not out to kill someone, just defend myself. It is proven that states with concealed carry laws have had their crime percentages drop drastically. |

Yes, but what would be better is open carry for everyone. Because criminals tend to think twice when everyone around them has the same chance of stopping them from their misdeeds. Besides, the 2nd amendment is the most important amendment. Once the 2nd amendment is gone, there will be nothing to protect the rest of our rights. Each individual is ultimately responsible for their own safety, police show up after a crime not before. I say concealed carry is great, but open carry is better. |

Of course we should....this is America. The punishment for its use in anger, or haste fully should be significantly! "When you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them". The Virginia Tech massacre would have been a different story if some or all the professors were armed. |

Your right to bear arms is granted under the 2nd Amendment Rights.
Legally, you can carry a weapon in plain view, in a holster, like the police do, since it is not concealed then? (be prepared to get stopped, but; legally it is not concealed)
A concealed weapons permit allows the carrier to carry under coat concealed.
The Supreme Court just lifted a ban on handguns within Washington, D.C., allowing citizens to be armed for their own safety again if they so choose to do so. |

Yes, but I also think its fairly pointless. Without extensive specialized training the odds of being able to use a concealed weapon effectively in an emergency situation are close to zero and almost no concealed carry permit holders have such training. |
