i have seen a lot of odd shows on like history channel and just read a arcticle on a web site. So i must ask. Are Silencers Legal For Cilvilians?

Silencers are legal only in certain states I believe. The only way to find out what states or counties in the US are allowed to have them is to check out the gun laws. Usually gun laws are governed by county and not by state, but I would be very suspicious of someone with a silencer. |

ONLY with a federal permit. Otherwise it's a loooong prison sentence. |

Silencers are illegal in all 50 states for civilians. You can own certain silencers if they fall into a "collector" category and you have a special collectors license. However, this license is also a type of dealer license and very hard to get, not worth it unless you intend to go into business or are just independently wealthy. |

Usually not, but I do know someone who got a permit for one. He had to talk with ATF and his state gun licencing people. Why would you want one anyway if you are a law abiding citizen? Just a collectors' item? |

Yes it depends on what state you are in. Some states you need a permit, some states you don't, some states it is illegal to possess one. So basically it depends on where you live. |

If they work they are bulky and destroy range and accuracy, just use a 22, it is quiet enough that most people do not even notice or think it is a door slamming. |

all of the people that are saying no are WRONG in most state they are legal you just need to get a class 3 its just like get a machine gun i live in Kentucky and i have seen silencers at a class gun store and i have shot a gun with a silencer that is owned by a class 3 dealer and i have a class 3 for my Sten MK2 sub machine gun and i have been thinking of getting anther class3 for a silencer for my Sten |

even police depts in the usa are held to STRICT federal guidelines...civilians can purchase silencers and machine guns but be prepared to pay hefty federal tax stamps and be subjected to warrantless searches....they are cool but not worth the $$$ |

I don't know, but if I were you I would check and see in various states, they may be in Texas, there it is legal to carry an concealed weapon, or so I've heard!!! |
