Since when did it become so popular to hate your local Police Official?

I'm feeling pretty mean today, especially after reading all the hate and anger directed against those who have taken an oath to serve and protect you. I know it comes with the territory of the lonely life led by our public servants but, I feel that there seems to be even more hatred spewed from the mouths of the people against the cops so I think that it is time for all Law Enforcement Officers to take a week or two off from your duties. Let's say from the first week of September, you all just stay home for 2 weeks. Open the jails and let the all those poor picked (they are all innocent, right?) people out for 2 weeks and no ticket writing, no domestics, no burglaries or robberies, or drug busts. I mean these people who are saying you aren't needed can handle it right? What do you think?

Photo person - I don't know what you are talking about referring to your post. I didn't see it. Look at the large number of answers given by many peope on this forum and you will see what I mean.
Just for the record though, It is not the job of any police official to "keep you in line". that is your responsibility or your parent's if your under 18. It is the responsibility of the "cop" to Protect and Serve. I agree that there are "bad" cops and they should be hung out to dry, but, too many people generalize and put that stigma on all cops.
You call us racist and have taken away one of the best tools we had for doing our job. Profiling. Example, an officer on patrol observes 2 white college kids driving a lexus in a predominantly black neighborhood where it is common knowledge for dealers to hang out. Do you truly think that these 2 kids are lost? Of course not, they are looking to score, but, we can't stop them because we aren't supposed to profile.

If only this would teach those Police/Sheriff Bashers a lesson I would be for it.

That just truly goes to show you how many people actually have run-ins with the law. I have never had a ticket, never been arrested, never had any run-ins with the law.

They are always there when there is a problem in the neighborhood, when I call about prowler, you see them at the scene of an accident. I for one would not want their job, but praise them for serving and protecting all these ungrateful people.

You can only wish that these people would come home, find their house vandalized, their belongings gone, and when they call 911 are told - "sorry we can't come to your house because you don't like us, deal with it yourself".

But it is the same as political bashers, it was they do, when they don't wish to face the facts, they sit back, point fingers, and push the blame on anyone but themselves.

If they hadn't been stupid, if they hadn't robbed that store, if they were not speeding, etc --- then they wouldn't be complaining about the Police.

Bless all those officers!

grapelady911
ooh ooh ooh.. can dispatchers take off too? T

They hate us but call us to fix what ever problem they created, then hate us again when we tell em they are at fault for being the F* up.

Heck yeah, let em do what they want for 2weeks.. thin the herd. I'll just sit in my house with my mossberg and taurus by my side, watch the news and play video games!

Sure lets do it your way.....Police are just people too... nothing more. way underpaid....

Yahoo! won't give me enough space to type an adequate answer on this one. Besides I lost my soap box.

Most people don't hate us. The ones that do are usually placing the blame on us for their own wrong doings. Others watch something on TV and assume all police officers behave like the one the news anchor is talking about (stereotyping). Others were raised that way or have been swayed by some politically motivated "community activist" who would rather rant about police brutality in a minority neighborhood then talk about issues that are more serious (i.e. black on black homicide rates).

It's just that way. But like I said most people do appreciate us.

I can hack my job sunshine. Been doing it for years and can't think of anything I'd rather do.

They have to have some one to blame for their stupidness.

I think that it became popular to dislike police when it became popular to blame your problems on someone else.
I am just 30, however, I hear stories of how my fellow officers and retired officers were treated "back in the day." I can see a correlation with the attitude of society and the liberal attitude of "it is not me." People now blame TV, games, drugs, lack of drugs, alcohol, their job, etc on problems. Years ago people could stand up and admit that they were at fault. Now if people get into legal trouble they do not blame themselves. They blame the police.

I cant help but to laugh at photo_girl...who clearly thinks the wourld revolves around her.... Unfortunatly public servants set themselves up for this abuse when they take the job...working wiht the publinc ingeneral is not easy because if someone has a bad day it's somehow because of you....and when your tryign to stop them from doing something or you have the power to reprimand them...they get a little bit more pissy. Most of these complaints are either smart mouthed know it all kids who think the world owes them a favor or "adults" who think they are entitled to do anything they want.some of it is just people blowing off steam, others want attention, and yet some more just totally hate cops because they can...I feel the majority of citizens respect the police and are thankful they can sleep at night with a little more peace of mind.. I personally am. Thank you everyone in Law Enforcement.. I know there are bad seeds out there but that doestn tarnish how i feel about you all as a whole

Those that hate the 'authorities' are usualy the ones that hate authority of any kind for any reason and have no authority in their own lives either. They are 'bad to the bone' as the song goes. They want to commit wrong deeds at the expense of harming and hurting others and they don't care. When they get caught, they complain. You know the saying, "You will never please the devil" and that is the main authority in their lives. Bad people do bad things because they follow a bad spiritual leader's example, the devil. Good people do good thiings because they follow a good Spiritual leader's example, Jesus Christ. In the end, they will be put into a perminent prison called hell and there is no escape from that prison. Its worse than Alcatraz on a bad day. There are lots of us that are happy to have our local authorities, but then we like to stay out of trouble in the first place so that is why we don't have any problems with them.

Does your Dr. theory apply when one attorney represents another? Next you'll be saying that cops don't lie! BTW aren't you supposed to protect and serve with honor and integrity? If you live where I do you would see your idea at work! Police inaction is the norm. Although most of us waste our time trying to do things theur way, in the end, any real justice won't be sought out by the police. How many of your buddies do you know that are worse than the ones they are "protecting"? Cops with real integrity are like the one who wrote himself a ticket for passing a school bus! Even though the citizens were divided on the issue, he still wrote himself a ticket. Now that's an honest cop!!!!

hopefully never. If we hate then.. who do we trust to keep control over law and justice? if we have no faith in our own system.. doesnt that suggest there is a really big problem

Lisbeth
I don't hate the cops, I'm afraid of them lol

Did someone say they are way underpaid? What cops are you talking about? They make alot more than most teachers. Teachers have to deal with more criminals each day in many schools.

It's popular because them sneaking around waiting for you to roll a stop sign or catch you doing some minor infraction isnt really saving our society. I mean, I understand stopping someone from doing something actually dangerous is something I'd like them to do, instead of waiting to catch someone on a technicality so they can say they wrote a ticket. Props to the pounders who actually know how to enforce the law in a reasonable fashion, but shame on the pigs who abuse what we have given them.

claire
I believe it came from the arrogant, macho attitude some of our police officers have. It seems the profession does attract that type of person. You know the type. The ones that think they are better than the rest of us just because they are a cop and wear a badge. The ones who abuse their power. Oh, and lets not forget the police brutality which unfortunately does go on out there. And then there are the ones who feel they can break the road laws just because they are a cop. What cop is going to give a ticket to another cop?

I am not against cops by any means, they have a job to do and I believe the majority of them do it well. It's just the ones who abuse their authority that I have a problem with. I have know many police officers who are really great people.

lttlehrse55
There have always been those who resent authority, and its arm. Hating cops became especially popular forty years ago during the cultural revolution, a time when it was fashionable to criticize the establishment and the things that represented it.

Cops to me are the good guys for the most part. I do know one, though, who's a liar. His false statement kept his rapist buddy out of prison. Fact.

its social parasites like yourself that cant imaging a world where citizens have a right to speak, to defend themselves to bare arms, to walk down the ******* sidewalk without being harassed by by a egotistical maniac with an inferiority complex dressed in blue hiding behind a cheap piece of medal called a badge if they even bother to wear one or choose not to hide there face and and shoot innocent people with a deadly weapon. your pathetic and don't deserve to have your rights, oh wait, what rights? the ones that are being stripped from you daily by idiots that wear a paramilitary Nazi secret police style fashion. you probably voted for bush. so get mean, express your views no matter how uneducated they might be cause you wont be able to before long, again, thanks to your heroes. and another thing...when is the last time a cop "prevented" a crime from happening. hell any of us can sit on our fat asses and sweep up the mess from an abused child, a rape victim etc, and then collect more money to support their way of life. the system use to work when county jails were owned by the county, the prisons owned by the state, etc. now they are all owned by private individuals and people have stock in them for personal gain. doesn't take a genius to figure that out and how that affects us ALL. we pay them way too much if you ask me

photo_girl1989
This is clearly the result of my post.

Dont get me wrong.
I have a lot of respect for MOST police officers.
Cops often put their lives on the line for citizens, and willingly throw themselves into dangerous situations for the greater good.

HOWEVER.
That being said. I do not like the way many cops abuse their power. It varies from area to area.
I know personally, in my area, I could say that at least half the squad are racists.
They harass minorities, and walk around in an extremely pompous manner.
They aren't courteous when they need to call us out on something.
I understand its your job to "keep us in line" per se.
However, how about decency?
Just because you have a lot of power over me doesn't mean you need to rub it in my eyes.
I get it. You can get me in trouble. You can punish me. You don't need to be so condescending.

There are good cops, and their are cops who need to act a little more appropriately.

And I don't know of many people who feel we should abolish the police and free all of our jails.
In fact, I've never met a person who felt that way. Not even my anarchist friends.
So, you're going a little off with this.

The law is a form of tyranny.
I hate cops who can't hack the job. Quit! Quit! Quit! YOU CAN'T HACK IT!

Just quit your whining and quit!

Know how long people have hated cops? ALWAYS! If you went into the job with soft-headed nonsense in your mind and now want to cry, then you should quit because you can't handle it!

Oh I know what your answer is gonna be mister whiner, "But I have a wife and kids and the job pays well." Then quit b----ing!

For christ's sake, being a cop is a HARD JOB, if you want an easy job, then go get one!
