Smoking in public?

Should be illegal. Smoking is a choice. Breathing isn't. The excuse that banning it is treating smokers like second class citizens is incorrect. Nobody is saying that smokers can't be in public places, they're just saying that they can't SMOKE in public places.

Legal, its a choice espically in an outdoor place. Gee call 911 when you see someone smoke a cigarette!

I think it should be legal.

I think that there should be a smoke free area for the people that do not smoke.

Or if there is no smoking in a place there should be some kind of shelter on the outside so those people, that do smoke, are not exposed to the elements. (Wind, Rain, Extreme Cold, Etc.)

Life is hazardous to your health. Smokers should be allowed somewhere to smoke. People complain that smoke is dangerous, it is, but so is the smoke from chimneys,car exhaust pipes, barbecue grills, and those outdoor fireplaces. Even if nobody in the world smoked we would still die, some of us would get lung cancer or heart disease. If everybody were smart we would all smoke because social security is in danger and businesses are stealing pensions from their employees. Combine this loss of retirement income with the high expenses of keeping people alive into their late 80's or 90's and you get millions of senior citizens starving to death. I would rather die at a younger age of a heart attack. I am a former smoker. The only reason I quit was the high taxes on cigarettes making them cost too much.

that could go either way. I really don't care one way or the other. but I guess since so many people suffer from respiratory illnesses, then maybe it should be illegal.

I think it should be allowed in public as long as there is fresh air around. Not in any public building. I hate breathing second hate smoke, but I don't think it's right to stop people from smoking in public. I would like to see it be illegal to smoke in your car with the windows up and children inside.

My how the times are a changing. We have taken the gays out of the closet and want to throw the smokers in. As long as I have smoked, I have tried to be considerate of others. Now some of you whom I shall never come within 1000 miles of, want to make me a criminal. I want the same rights as minorities in this country. So just leave me alone.

Illegal. Smoking is known to be hazardous to your health, along with second hand smoke. By someone smoking in public, they are putting my life in danger therefor shortening my life, which in turn stops me from the pursuit of happiness, which is in the constitution.

So I live in Florida where it is illegal to smoke indoor, except for a few loop holes.

Legal. The argument that it is hazardous to those around the smoker can be used to make drinking illegal. Those who drink are a hazard to those around them. Those who chug their beers at sport venues then get into their cars endanger my life just as much if not more so than some one who is lighting up. I can walk away from a smoker. Also in Texas the are wanting to use a $1.00 per pack tax to fund public education, yet in most cities it is illegal to smoke in public. Talk about hypocrisy.
