So I got a speeding ticket... but?

okay so i got a ticket for supposedly speeding in a school zone.. but at my school we have two parking lots, one for seniors and the other for underclass men.. so i always park in the senior lot. i made a right turn out of the parking lot onto the road, about 20 feet from my turn is a sign stating that the school zone ended and the speed limit is 35 so as usual i speed up and go on my way just as i passed the sign.
so i travel about 50 feet passed the speed limit sign and see a cop, i figured i was going right around 35 so i didn't feel the need to hit the brakes. but the cop turned around and followed me for a few minutes then pulled me over.
the officer said i was going 40 in a school zone. double the speed limit. but i wasn't. there is no possible way i could make my turn and speed up to 40 before i passed the speed limit sign that was only 20 feet away!
but yes i was speeding, going 5 over. i'm totally willing to pay that no problem, but i don't want a ticket for speeding in a school zone when that is not the case!
anyhow.. do u think i have a chance in winning if i challenge it?
i was thinking maybe i won't challenge it but show my evidence and then it may possibly get reduced?
i'm not sure what to do because i'm 18 and i really don't want this on my record.

You need to hire an attorney who specializes in the defense of speeding tickets to represent you.
When I was in high school I received a speeding ticket that I knew was not correct.
I hired an attorney to represent me and I won in court. The judge dismissed the ticket.
It cost me far more money to hire the attorney than the fine would hve been if I had just pled guilty.
However winning that ticket in court was one of the most empowering experiences that I have had in my life.
I even got new respect from my teachers at school because even they did no know how to win in court.
That was over 40 years ago.
I am now retired.
to this day I would say that the money that I spent to hire that attorney was some of the best money that I have ever spent. |
