This will just encourage more scum into this country to commit crimes.....this is a disgrace, there are pensioners living below the poverty line and now they come up with this garbage...send them home by all means but minus the money and no rights to come back to Britain.

I don't understand why they should be offered an incentive. Don't forget they are prisoners - they do not have a right to stay anyway. They should be ordered to return to their country. It is not an option, it should be a requirement. If they don't comply then ask the police to carry them to the planes.

This is definetly a bad idea. Why do you give tax payers money to some one who is is doing nothing, pays no taxes. It is like an invite for the people of the world to become immigrants and earn 2,500 to go back. What guarrantee do we have that they will not make their way back to pocket another 2,500

i totally agree with you this country is a soft touch they should be looking after our own people i am from Scotland and i a living and working in England i wonder if the goverment would give me money to go home i think not if they commit a crime in this country they should be put on a flight straight after sentence and there goverment should pay there fare home

A much better idea is to, where possible, deport none residents (different from immigrants). Immigrants is too broad a phrase.

You can't stop poeple coming back here by force - you do it by insentives (or lack of them). There are so many grey areas of who 'should' be here or not that it's very difficult to make a system work.

So no - it's complete nonsense.

I suppose it would be cheaper in the long run but you are right that they may just make a habit out of it.
We would also run the risk of more immigrants coming into the country just to get deported with Â£2'500!

Even better just send them home without any payment. Any immigrant found guilty of a crime should not be imprisoned in this country at our expense but deported immediately. Tattoo them or microchip them to prevent them coming back. If they can be persuaded to take half a dozen friends with them even better.

I don't agree with paying national or international criminals any compensation whatsoever as they profit from crime in the first place. If you or your dog injure someone in defence of your property oyu have to pay them for their injuries, if they weren't there in the first place they wouldn't get hurt

i think it is a terrible idea. its the same as me saying give me Â£2500 not to commit any crime. if they break the law then they should be sent back empty handed regardless of consequence.they have laws in their own countries and should pay the price for their crimes.

Well I wrote to Rt Hon. Gordon Brown a few months ago offering him a way to save money never got a reply as expected & the idea of what John Reid is suggesting is similar so whether it will work ?who knows,Like the idea of Micro-chip though!!

Man you have some beef. Look for every cause there is an effect. I agree giving the immigrants money won't help it will just encourage more immigration to get the free money. No matter what immigrants are here to stay because of a problem of a huge gap between the rich and the poor. The rich countries such as your country secretly support dictators so that your government and the dictators are the only entities that benefit from the valuable resources in the "poor countries" the genuine recipients do not benefit and due to frustration and desperation escape to "greener pastures" so vote for a government that is genuinely for the cause of alleviating poverty then you can start complaining. Otherwise i can assure immigration is forever and ever and besides your a beneficiary of misdeeds( illegal transfer of wealth) that have forced immigrants to come to your country

Doesn't sound right to me. Why reward somebody for doing nothing or, even worse, for committing a crime. By the way, don't they work while in prison? If not - that would be a good idea.

WHAT??? No they should NOT be given money which has been hard earned by the British Taxpayers. They should be SENT home AND microchipped so that they can NEVER come back to Britain EVER again.

Your idea has its merits especially about the tagging (obviously this would have to be the same as when a dog is tagged under the skin) but Â£2,500 is a lot of money to give them try Â£750.00 and they should sent home on the cheapest form of transport be it a boat or plane.
