What if someone broke into your house and stole valuable items. Say they stole your guitar and Xbox console.
You know who did the crime, but you didn't catch them. What can you do?

How do you know? Tell the police.
Make sure that any likely locations of entry are clean so that if they break in, the police can obtain fingerprints easier. Record serial numbers for everything and keep the record somewhere safe.
Photograph your stuff and keep the pictures somewhere safe.
Put your own identifier on your property. The identifier needs to be in a conspicuous place so that anyone will know it's yours or be able to see the identifier to be able to read it without turning it over. So if it is stolen, if it is seen somewhere someone will recognize your identifier.
Get a surveillance system or an alarm.
Establish a block watch program in conjunction with the local police. Your nosy neighbors are your best friends when you are gone (providing they are home).
Make your house burglar resistant. This means putting upgraded door locks and latches with 3 inch screws in the lock plates. Also, making sure any windows that can be opened are sufficiently secured. There is a clear masking that can be put on windows that make them more resistant to breaking.
I'm sure there are other things to do to. But the best thing, make sure your insurance is paid up. |
