or put a sign up saying beware doberman (even if you dont have one they may be put off that there could be one in the house) or you could get a dog but not just for sercurity it would have to be a loved pet too
You could also tell the police
or move the children out to live with a family member until the alarm is fitted

I guess file a police report. Explain to the police the situation, I'm sure they'll do at least something to help you out. If you're worried about tonight, IDK if you can do this, but ask someone to check up on you late at night...

1)Phone the police to report the possible break in.
2)If you are the only adult in the house, phone a friend or family member to stay the night with you so you have back up and an extra pair of ears.
3)Lock all the windows.
4)Move all the knives guns and valuables into e.g. your wardrobe for the night.
5)Have the kids kip in your room with you for the night so you know where they are should there be another break in.
6)Invest in an alarm system.

You said you have guns in the house. That's a pretty good defense against a burglar.
But other than that, get better locks on the doors. Also, get an alarm system. Find an alarm that alerts the police when it goes off, not one that just makes a loud noise. Also, get a guard dog, like a German Shepherd or a Rottweiler. Dogs will bark when they see someone on your property. As you know, when dogs bark, other dogs bark. This makes a lot of noise and wakes up everybody in the neighborhood. Robbers obviously don't want attention, so they stay away from houses with dogs. The dog will also protect you from anyone that actually does come into your house.
Also, get a security fence. It should be tall and hard to climb. It should have locks and should be hard to cut down.
Remember, robbers want an easy house to rob. All of these things make it very hard to rob a house. If they see a large fence, an alarm system or a dog, they generally skip that house.

nah, just kidding. What you should probably do is to stay at the house (well, duh) and have the valuables that can easily be taken upstairs. Close all the doors, (and maybe try to make some squeak :D) and lock all the windows. If you have any time, go and get some proper door bolts. Basically, try to make the house as hard to get into as possible so that if they do come, they'll wake you up.

if i were you i would try to get someone to fix the frame asap, but for tonight maybe for your own piece of mind put a cupboard or something large in the way so no-one can get in. and for the future you can buy really cheap alarms to fit so you feel a bit safer. but to help put your mind at ease they probably wouldnt even think of coming back as they know you will be on the alert. hope you feel safer in your home soon though.

It's an old trick, but you can set up can's and bottles near insecure entrances. If you hear anything break, have the phone close and call immediately. It's better to be safe than sorry.

It may also be a good idea to call the police department (not 911) and ask their advice. If someone were to break in, they would have your situation already on file. It's a good precaution.
