It started in Virginia, and involved a stricter approach to gun law violations, and made many violations that previously had been handled by state courts now move into the Federal Court system, with people convicted being sentenced to incarceration in federal prison. Is Project Exile still in effect? If so, is it in effect across the entire United States?

We didn't call it Exile in Illinois. The laws were always on the books it is just that the locals were getting cooperation from the Feds, usually ATF, in finding multiple cases or deepening the investigation on target individuals. The AUSA would then take over the case and the county prosecutor would agree to waive prosecution. The bad guy when convicted then got the harder Federal time. FYI certain rules of evidence are easier in Federal courts then state courts.
When I retired the system was on hiatus but that happened before and it was resurrected often.
There were no special laws or anything just full enforcement and cooperation by the Feds with local law enforcement. |
