Speeding In America?

How is speeding treated in terms of points and fines, in the uk you get 3 points for speeding with a max limit of 9 or 12 (I Think) then u get banned for a year. Is this similar to american rules for speeding. (My Bad If That Makes No Sence)

Here in the U.S. it varies depending on the state in which one lives. Some states have points assigned, in addition to a fine, and after a certain number of points the license could be suspended. Overall, it probably isn't much different from the U.K. |

depending how fast your going, police can either impound your car, pay ridiculous fee and/or suspend your drivers license.
we also have a point system here...i'm not sure of the points itself but i think when you get to three tickets (3points) you can get your driver's license suspended for a certain amount of time. these points are also use by your car insurance company. everything you get a ticket, your fee increase. and you would also have to take a Driver's Education class that last about 8hours a session, this then gets mailed to your insurance to get that point off your record. |

Unlike the UK, the country here is divided into states that each impose thier own set of laws and penalties. Most of them are generic and about the same. Speeding is a moving violation, some states have points, some dont. You are charged the speeding fine plus you car insurance increase (surcharged). I speeding ticket can make you pay for up to 7 years from legal fees if you fight it, car insurance premiums, etc. |

depends on how many miles per hours you are over to gain more points on your liscense. Speeding is dangerous, causes major accidents, increases insurance rates, and one can end up in jail for killing someone |

United States has a Speed Limit like 75mph and then the cops have a wireless radar gun that tells them if their speeding at what speed and then they pull them over and give you a warning or a ticket a ticket is like a paper saying u speed heres what you owe and then you get 2 more warnings then its jail Time |

I think somebody else may be able to get more specific, but it is possible to lose your license in the US for getting too many speeding tickets.
The biggest fear most drivers have is not so much about the fine for speeding but the distinct possibility that your car insurance is going to cost more next time because of your speeding ticket. Some drivers have a really hard time finding any company willing to insure them. |

I believe it's similar....the points you get affect your auto insurance here, which makes the already high cost even higher for 5 years. I think the max here is 10 points - or maybe 8 - I'm not sure. I've only been stopped for speeding once in my 30 years of driving (not bad, eh?)
For some people, having your license revoked - whether it's for a month or a year - is pointless because they get caught driving without their license later on. We Americans can be such idiots sometimes. |

It depends on the state, the amount by which you are over the limit, and whether or not the cop wants to get you for reckless endangerment (which can happen if he or she thinks you're driving so fast that you're endangering others on the road). As a rule, you get fined and points are assessed to your insurance policy, so that you pay a fair bit more on that, as well as for the fine. If you're nicked on reckless endangerment, that can mean more serious consequences up to and including jail time. |

Back when I did most of my speeding it was just fines. I once got 3 in one afternoon over 110 mph. I lost count of my total lifetime tickets at 45.My best groundspeed on Angeles Crest Hwy was 143 mph.The most expensive one I ever got was 300.00 dollars and it was on the 6:00 o'clock news with helicopters.
I've only had 3 tickets in cars.
2 accidents-both the other's fault and at 10 and 15 mph respectivly. |
