Speeding Ticket in Cali (county of Orange), any tips?

Yesterday I was on the freeway and I got pulled over for a speeding violation labeled as "speed contest". I was clocked at 106mph according to his radar. The ticket says I made an unsafe lane change and a speeding violation.

This is the first time I have ever been pulled over for anything. I have never gotten a ticket, even a parking ticket. I am 18 (since September) and I received my license in September of '08. Does anyone have any tips on what can be done to help the process, lower the cost of the ticket, what sort of things I should know, and what to actually do. All the cop told me to do was call some number at the bottom of the ticket and the people on the phone will tell me what to do from there.

PS: Please, if you are going to flame me, at least try to include some useful information. I realize that it was a stupid mistake and I am already getting enough crap as it is.

Thanks Stevie, I realize the risk of identity theft, but this is just where I received the ticket, not where I live. Besides, all of the information that I supplied you could easily get from anyone else's myspace or facebook page. Thanks for the tip though.

wel its time pay up for your mistake and it will cost you alot
as to lower the cost it won't happen with that speed
if you can't pay the fine you could ask for community service becaue ii believe your fine could be about a grand or more.
just be glad you didn't get wreckless driving also
here in Illinois if your more than 40 over the limit the fine is much higher and it statrs at $750 and goes up from there
and also you could lose your driving privlege for a time also .. thats up to the Judge

first off... you shouldnt be putting your first and last name on the internet..especially with information like youre near Orange County. This is how identities get stolen.

Your best bet is to go to the county courthouse and request to take defensive driving (can dismiss one ticket every 12 months) and set up a payment plan for the other tickets.

Wow.

You probably got nailed with 22348 VC (for speed over 100 MPH), 23103 VC (reckless), 22107 or 22108 VC (unsafe lane change), and 23109 VC (speed contest).

This is going to cost you a shocking amount of money. Speed contest alone carries a fine between $355 and $1000 and/or 1-90 days in jail AND 40 hours community service AND the option to suspend your license from 90 days to six months.

And that's assuming no priors.

Then there's the points: Two for reckless, one or two for speed contest, and one for anything else. If you get four points within any 12 month period (or six within 24, or eight within 36) you get the dreaded 'negligent operator' title.

I do not normally recommend people consult with attorneys for traffic tickets, but you have quite a bit on the line here. You might need some professional help. I doubt you will 'get out' of anything, but the sheer dollar amount of the fines you are looking at combined with the threat to your driving privilege (to say nothing of the hit on your insurance) tells me you need professional advice - not yahoo help.

Yikes, this is going to be a bad one.

You can go to court and ask for traffic school, but I don't know how many of the points that will remove from your license. I'd say see an attorney if you really want to get this reduced.

First of all dont listen to Beverly and dont worry, its not as much as bad as you think, i got clocked at 102 on the way to vegas, i got my ticket in the mail and it said i had to go to court no exceptions, i was worried as can be expected, but when everything was said and done i got a $500 fine and was in and out of court in less than a hour, i asked for a payment plan and paid $50 a month... So dont let these people scare you, you wont go to jail, you wont get your DL suspended and you dont need a lawyer, UNLESS this is your 3rd speeding ticket or something rediculous like that... if its your first ticket then you can stop worrying like i did and just go to court and pled no contest to the ticket and ask for a payment plan... its as easy as ordering a meal
