Tasers or guns for police.?
Find answers to your legal question.

Tasers or guns for police.?

what does society think.

Carla A
Guns the criminals have them (as well as lots of teens so it seems) so why shouldnt we be protected and the police protect themselves with them. Although I do think that theyd use tasers more readily (which is a good thing). Police may be unwilling to use guns as they would probably get sued (the way our society and justice system see to work).

There are occasions when we need police with guns and other occasions when we need police with tasers. Some of the police I know wouldn't be safe with a peashooter.

Both. It's rare that the wrong person gets killed by the police and the villains don't care who gets killed!!

Both, because Guns can be used to settle down violence, while Tasers can be used in a way that it doesn't kill the person. Tasers can also be used to threaten people with the pain it causes. Guns can be pointed at a villain so that it makes them surrender to the police.

El Jefe
I think they should give the police assault rifles or let them carry what they want or need for their work environment . Its reddiculas that there are police men and woman out there carrying a 9mm beretta when there are criminals walking around with ak-47's and who target police. We live in a violent world guns and weapons only add to it but at the end of the day when your being robbed or held hostage and when that cop shows up with nothing but a night stick to help you, how would you feel?

Tasers don't work on everybody and have a much higher failure rate than a handgun.

Plus, the intimidation factor is higher with a gun.

'orses for courses in other words both. I do not want to be confronted with either.
criminals already have guns in plenty, I am sure that they have or will soon get tasers

Depends. If your going to physically harm yourself, others and property in almost any way then guns may do the job.
HOWEVER
Most times police need to simply detain a person NOT HARM or shoot them. there are alot of Non-leathal methods out there today some of them are:
Beanbag shotgun,
pepper balls (look and shot like paintballs)
Tazer or stun gun
Loud and directional soundwaves
Hot and directional heat waves
Net gun can throw a net quit a ways like in cartoons (still in testing)
So basically there are many chemicals and "soft projectiles"
being used to detain an individual and make sure officer(s) and innocent bystanders can go home at night, depending on the situation.

Only an idiot would think that police should not have guns. What if a criminal robs a bank with an AK-47?
The range of a Taser is only 10 feet. That means that a gunman 11 feet from a policeman with a taser would be completely safe.
I think policemen should carry both. If confronted by a gunman, use guns. If confronted by someone unarmed, use the taser.
A taser won't do an ounce of good against a sniper. Well, maybe they could throw it at him. The may as well throw hamburgers.

Both. When the only tool you have is a hammer, all your problems begin to look like nails.

i think at this moment in time, the status quo works but,i think that tasers ( does this mean the electric shock gun that shoots out two wires) this i do not agree because how can you know if a person is healthy enough to take it, he may have serious heart problems, and it could kill him/her. where guns are concerned they can be used to disarm without killing. at least that's my opinion?

Only trained firearms officers should have guns or tasers, the beat Bobby certainly shouldn't have either

I asked a similar question 2 nights ago and was overwhelmed by the response. People take this very seriously, as they should.
The problem is, it's a bit like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg? Should police respond to criminals having guns or will criminals respond to police having them.
There's so many out there it's hard, but for now in Britain, I think tazers and armed response are enough.

Guns, tasers are a temporary fix to a serious problem...STUPID!

Copgirl
Both, just like most of us have.

Mickey
I think in many situations they are necessary for the means of public safety. However, as days get more technological means to solving problems become easier to use less and less of the amount of violence. I have a friend who's brother is a Police Officer and he told me that he is so used to being right and listened to all day, he comes home expecting to be right. This stuck with me because Police Officer's have a large amount of power that can be abused and many times does. I think that excessive force might be a result of this. In that case tasers and guns are both good for control but both are unnecissary.

Tasers !!!!

bobbybob
i think police shoudent be armed we have so many ways of stoping crimnals with out lethal weponary and to add to the comment some one has a tazer that reaches 10 feet and the criminal is stood 11 feet we also have bean bag shotgun which can reach further
