I have a question about knives and the ability to carry and have them in my vehicle.
I have a United Paratrooper knife in my car that I just have as a utility knife.

Closed length is 5 inches
Blade length is around 3 1/2 inches
and total length when open is about 7 inches
I also carry a Kershaw Cyclone as a utility knife

closed length is around 4 1/2 inches
Blade length is around 3 1/4 inches
open length is around 7 inches.
for my first knife, I carry it in the car...am I allowed to have that knife in the car?
secondly, my Kershaw is what they called "assisted opening" it flips open with a switch on top. that option can be turned on and off with a switch. Am I allowed to have it on me? I know switchblades are not allowed at all and since it does flip open with a switch, Is that considered a switchblade? what happens if I have it in the off position only, is that still ok?
Also, another question. I'm a law abiding citizen but I have been pulled over once or twice before and have been asked "do you have anything that I need to know?" before the officer asked anything else and I understand it's a safety thing but I said no because I know that I don't need to disclose anything. But recently I was told that I should always tell them that you have a knife or a gun in the car first even if they don't ask as a sign of good faith...so what should I do?
I don't want to just tell them and then they automatically think I'm a bad person and put me in cuffs or anything, but I don't want them to find a knife/gun if my car was ever searched and they will be like "why didn't you tell me you have a knife/gun" even though I wasn't doing anything illegal and that having them wasn't illegal.
