I read that you cannot join the police if your a member of the bnp, but why is it okay if your gay etc etc but not if your a bnp member. Surely they cant descrimenate against you because of your political believes?

Unfortunately, yes they can. Even though the BNP is a reconised legal political party. |

Because if your gay it doesnt mean you will necessarily discriminate against straight people. If you were previously a member of the BNP however it shows that you have political views based on nationality/culture/believes.

As a copper you cant be an active member of any political party.
The BNP is not allowed in any respect because of their far right wing racist views and rightly so. |

Yes they can. Communists, for example, have not been allowed to join the police in the past. One police cadet I knew was asked to resign when it was discovered his uncle was a member of the Communist Party. |

Yes they can, the Police have restrictions on their private lives. If you belonged to a radical anti-white movement, the same restriction would apply. In fact, you cannot be a member of any political party or take an active part in politics. Your question is a good example of the Xenophobic and paranoid nature of the BNP.
Makes perfect sense... Police Officers shouldnt be extremists when their job is to be middle of the line. |

If you are a member of the BNP it demonstrates that you lack the ability to fairly deal with a situation where ethnicity is an issue. In general the British police welcome a diverse ethnic mixture into their ranks. Would a BNP member be happy to go on patrol with someone whose family originated from, say, India? |

I think you mean beliefs.
The BNP is considered an anti-democratic party by many because a functional democracy usually has laws that prevent "the tyranny of the masses" i.e. everyone has rights, and the BNP wants to create discriminatory laws, and pretend that a vote is justification for it.
As the police are needed as an unbiased body to enforce those laws, BNP membership is not allowed. |

The BNP are a activist party which have or still engage in racism or believes. Therefore going against the police core values. Also the police have very sensitive information and given the BNP's background a member who has that info can be dangerous. |

yes they do and they sacked a load of fire men for being members of the BNP. Yet muslims are allowed to work in pharmacists and hospitals and refuse to do parts of their jobs that goes against their believes. |
