I am 26 i tried to buy alcohol showed id and everything had not drank at all why would someone refuse to sell me alcohol? evrything was fine i was used to showing id but not people refusing to sell me alcohol

Retailers have a right to refuse service to anyone, and they are not required to advise you why.
It could be for several reasons. The ID could have been expired, worn out where the could not see the information, they may have thought it was fake, or maybe they were not convinced it was your ID.
The scanners I've seen merchants use only capture the image, the do not identify it as valid. |

There is a reason they won't sell you alcohol and your not disclosing that. Drunk or not drunk, most establishments reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Your obviously not welcome at that one, walk another block to get your fix!! |

Oh yeah...Being Mexican might have a lot to do with it....
...As you've been told, many places do have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason basically, and there's a great possibility that the merchant was thinking selling you liquor would lead to a robbery or something.
...As far as filing a complaint, I don't think that there was really any wrong doing as the guy at the store was within his rights, and if he can get away with racism, so can other people (unfortunately)
This is just a guess, of course, but whatever the reason that's a really lame thing to happen. Sorry, brah, but some people are still just rude. Better luck next time! |

Were you by any chance in another state than the state which issued your ID/DL? I live in the western US now, but when I go back to upstate New York to visit friends & relatives I have been refused beer purchases by retailers there occasionally just due to my DL being from out-of-state. I've read on other sites about the same issue happening all over the US, but fortunately New York is the only state that I've had that issue. |
