Think the NRA should re-think its "all-guns all-the-time" stance?
Find answers to your legal question.

Think the NRA should re-think its "all-guns all-the-time" stance?

The NRA is notorious for campaigning hard against any form of gun control, do you think they should re-evaluate their stance, and propose logical, realistic gun control legislation that we all can live with? Shouldn't the NRA prove to the rest of us that they are for Americans, not gun manufacterers?
Additional Details
The NRA is supposedly a group of responsible gun owners, is it responible to make excuses and stick your heads in the sand while dozens of people are killed?

My grandfather and father were both killed by guns. They were both safety conscious gunsmen, but died anyway. My father was a victim of a robber; it took him twenty pain-filled years to dfinally die of complications from the wound. I think hunting guns are okay if they are very tightly regulated, but can see no valid reason for handguns except to blow holes in humans. Maybe Dave Chappell has it right: no gun control, but tax the hell out of bullets, say $1000 for each one!

NOT AFTER TODAY'S SLAUGHTER!!!!!

If law abiding citizens had the right to bear arms, and at least one of the 29 in that classroom was smart enough to have it on him - HOW MANY WOULD HAVE DIED TODAY? HOW MANY SAVED? DO THE MATH.

If just one of those students had been allowed to exercise their 2nd amendment rights, this incident might not have ever happened.

No, there are law on the books now that are not being enforces. Restrictions are only good for law abiding people, crooks don't care about the laws.
The media does not report how many people are saved by using their gun to stop crime.

No. Here's why. Just a few months ago there was a proposed bill in the Virginia legislation (bill #1572) that would have enabled students at Virginia universities to carry concealed firearms if they had permits. The bill was proposed because a Virginia Tech student got disciplined for carrying his legally obtained and licensed firearm on campus. The bill was defeated swiftly without ever making it out of the first committee. The Virginia Tech president had this to say at the time:

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

Here's a link to the article if you'd like to read it.

Had any of the students at VT been carrying a weapon that he or she had practiced with and knew how to handle the body count would have been much lower.
According to your line of thinking if we disarm everyone we all be safer. Thats just stupid. Virginia and the rest of the US have plenty of gun laws in place, we do not need any more.

BJ
If they outlaw the sale of guns and force us to turn in our weapons, the only ones who will be armed to the teeth are the gangsters (who already aren't allowed to have guns), the military and the police.

Don't wanna live in THAT world.

in-the-biz
There was, not too long ago, a potential shooter on another Virginia campus. It was reported that he was wrestled to the ground by three students before he could actually shoot anyone. What the press failed to report was that two of the three students pulled hand guns and ordered the potential shooter to drop his weapon. He did. THEN they rushed him and wrestled him to the ground.

Get it?

I'd probably guess that you are "notorious" for thinking that you know better than law-abiding gun owners.

There is an entire branch of the NRA, the NRA-ILA (Institute for Legislative Action) that proposes logical and sensible legislation. Unfortunately for anti-gunners, this is NOT legislation that targets the lawful and law-abiding gun owner.

If you have some proposed wonder-law that everyone can agree on, please share it with us. However, I can guarantee that anything you can come up with has already been considered (and probably failed).

The NRA defends the Second Amendment, relying on the intent of the Founders. I'd say that's pretty American.

What country do you live in? In the USA, the right to bear arms is constitutional protected. The NRA is a private organization that anyone can join. I have probably over 200 friends that are members & some of them do not even own guns.
I believe no automatic guns should be sold, no hollow tip bullets, & absolutely no bullet proof vests.
To stop selling guns to honest Americans would leave only criminals with guns. You do not honestly believe the criminals have permits for their guns. If only criminals & police have guns, who do you think will be outnumbered & thus leaving everyone else at the mercy of the violent criminals.

Yet another person led astray by liberal propaganda.

Crack, meth, cocaine, heroin, and marijuana are all illegal. Yet somehow they pour into the United States by thousands of metric tons every year. People illegally enter the United States by the millions every year. Simply because some politician writes a law prohibiting it, does not stop it.

Psycho killers always have and always will be armed. Legislation regulating and/or prohibiting firearms will never stop these people from being armed. If a psycho killer wants a gun to kill people, he/she will get it, period.

The ONLY thing the laws do is make it more difficult for a law abiding citizen to defend themselves. Had an armed law abiding citizen been nearby when this psycho killer started shooting, it could have very well saved lives.

As a law enforcement officer, I have lost count of the number of illegal firearms I've taken from criminals. These people will find a way to be armed regardless of legislation. In Missouri where I live, concealed carry was passed into law in 2003. When it was passed, liberal extremists literally said there would be 'gun fights in the streets'. Its now been 4 years, and NOT ONE person with a CCW permit has assaulted someone with a firearm. I am also personally aware of at least 3 situations where a law abiding citizen being armed saved their life.

In 2000, Australia passed legislation requiring 640,381 privately owned firearms to be turned into the government. This was aimed at stopping gun violence, just like the liberal extremists in the United States are preaching. One year after the Australian government spent $500,000,000.00 destroying these weapons:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2%
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6%
Australia-wide, armed-robberies are up 44% (yes, FORTY-FOUR PERCENT)
In the state of Victoria, homicides-with-firearms are up 300%
Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in homicides-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in armed-robbery-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
There has been a dramatic increase in breakins-and-assaults-of- the-elderly
At the time of the ban, the Prime Minister said "self-defense is not a reason for owning a firearm"
From 1910 to present, homicides in Australia had averaged about 1.8-per-100,000 or lower, a safe society by any standard.
The ban has destroyed Australia's standings in some international sport shooting competitions
The membership of the Australian Sports Shooting Association has risen to 112,000, a 200% increase, in response to the ban and as an attempt to organize against further controls, which are expected.
Australian politicians are on the spot and at a loss to explain how no improvement in "safety" has been observed after such monumental effort and expense was successfully expended in "ridding society of guns". Their response has been to "wait longer".

The simple facts are that the ONLY thing so-called 'gun control' legislation does is to ensure unarmed prey for criminals. In the United States, the places with the most stringent gun control laws also have the highest homicide rates (Detroit, Washington DC, etc.). This is no coincidence.

And what part of shootings does the NRA have anything to do with? The NRA supports legal and responsible gun ownership. Most shootings are the product of neither.

Ted Kennedy's car has killed more americans than my guns.

thats it, maybe we should ban those killin machines, what do you call them, ohhh yes, cars, those dreadful things.

Do what ever you want, I will never ever give mine up.

Hitler wanted his peasants unarmed as well.

I knew it was a matter of time before whinny liberal bleeding hearts started this up.

now, I pray for the souls in the tradgedy.

but, ask yourself, what if, what if they had been able to be armed, they could have stopped it.

read all the facts and figures.

I quit the NRA when they gave up on any pretense of being an organization that promoted hunting and sportsmanship.

It is nothing more than a political organization that caters to extreme perspectives and hate speech. God help you if you attempt to point out where they have failed the general membership.

I'm sorry now that I ever gave them any of my money. But I kept my guns.
