You can call the police at any time, regardless if you are given a warning. If you locked yourself out of the car why are you freaking out so much. You can call any roadside service and for a small fee they will open the car door for you. If you get arrested there is no telling how long you will be held up. I seriously doubt they will let you out because you have to meet someone in 5 hours. You could spend several days in jail if it is the weekend and there is no court in session. Or you could be released without being charged. The police will come and they will talk to you, they won't just slap the cuffs on you. But if you are being a lunatic and won't calm down, then yea, you are going to jail. |

If security is threatening to have you arrested, maybe you need to CALM DOWN! Its not normal to be that excited by just locking yourself out of your car (which everyone has done, at some point.) |

If I am calling the cops, I don't have to tell anyone anything. I just pick up a phone and call.
Depending on the disturbance and the words and the local laws, you could get anything from a warning, to arrested and held as long as your local laws allow before you go to court (some places a few hours, some states up to 30 days).
Try this:
Grow up. Bad crap happens all the time, learn how to laugh at yourself and deal with it.
You would get help from people if you were calm and laughing at yourself. Ranting & raving NO ONE would try to help you. |

As with driving a car, the operator should always be in control of the vehicle. So it is with life. Things happen and go wrong. Freaking is not a mature reaction. Being precluded from fulfilling an appointment or engagement does not qualify as a reason to freak out. Whatever you have told yourself about freaking-out needs to be revisited. There is usually a reaction when things go wrong or bad. Reacting to the point of being a public nuisance or disturbing the peace is way over the top. You need to exercise more self control. |

No one needs to be warned that their behavior is disturbing and police are likely to be called. They should already know good behavior from bad, and the appropriate level of reaction for such an inconvenience of locking oneself out. I've done it a few times and my response hasn't been any stronger than, "Oh, crap," and I start working on remedying the situation.
Someone who is not mature enough to maintain their composure for such a error and is "flipping out" is probably dangerous to approach for any reason. No warning. |

if you are so out of control that the security person feels you are a hazard, the law will be called. The "freaking out" helped the situation? |

You get a warning. If you were freaking out that much, you were probably over reacting and scaring the other Target Patrons. You can call the person you are going to meet and inform them of your dilemma and then call a locksmith to get your keys out of your car. If you don't calm down, then they can call the police. If the police can't calm you down, you will be taken into custody and therefor never get to see the person you are needing to meet in five hours. You will end up just standing them up. Learn to control your emotions better to avoid this in the future. |

If the Police were called and they judged you to be a danger to yourself, someone else or property they would be within their rights to arrest you. They would be able to hold you I believe for upto 24 hours when they must then charge you. You are entitled to have someone informed of your arrest. If you are creating a disturbance for such a thing maybe you need to learn to de-stress getting yourself arrested just because you got locked out of your car seems a bit of an over-reaction, the person calling the Police has no duty to warn you if your actions have caused them or another to fear for their safety or their property then they are well within their rights to call the Police. |

Stay calm in all situations by reminding yourself that, "nothing matters."
In 80 or 100 years, most of our presence on this planet with be at most a family memory. |

If you are disturdbing other people going into their store in their parking lot , than yes they can and will call the police and unless you calmed down they would remove you and haul you off to jail . Depending on how stupid you are and continued freaking out or resisted arrest than you could get some jail time and a couple different charges. |

The police usually carry slim jims with them so they would have calmed you down anyway. You should have let them call the cops so they could have opened your car door.
If the security officer has any kind of training in their blood at all, they will try to calm you down by helping you and your situation. If they don't and are wannabe cops who couldn't pass the psych test, they will do anything they can to try to make themselves feel more powerful over you. They don't have to warn you in any case but you shouldn't spaz about locking yourself in. Call AAA or some other company to get you into your car and then proceed on your day. The person you are meeting will understand if they are a decent person. Good luck!! |

Telling the person to calm down may in fact cause the situation to go either way. It could escalate and now the person suggesting to calm may get caught, or it may swing the way where the man who is freaked may calm and things can be worked out. But if the person nearby who sees the freaked man feels that he may be in danger to himself or anyone else, can call the police. |

I think it is weird for people to feel threatened by someone freaking out over their own issue and not directing it at anyone. The answers here baffle me. If someone is ranting to their own self, why can't people just ignore it and keep walking? I don't see this as something the police need to deal with. Let a person rant and freak until they wear themselves out. There's no need to fear that. |
