I don't think there is a conspiracy to target blacks and minorities.
Unfortunately, it does seem to be MOSTLY but not all blacks that are dealing in drugs. I know there are also white drug dealers out there and you can be sure they are also being targeted in the "war on drugs".
However, whenever I watch the news and they are talking about drug busts, it seems, more often then not, that the ones dealing the drugs are black people who are on welfare. It seems to be a quick and easy way to make money.
I am not saying there aren't white people in the same situation but they don't seem to get caught as often.
I abhor ALL drug dealers regardless of race or ethnicity and I believe they should all be jailed. |

No, I believe that drugs are the cause of a lot of crime including murders. Drug dealers and users kill themselves and trying to stop that, is in effect trying to help. Unfortunately, drugs are more rampant in poverty stricken areas that are predominately minority. The minorities and the government need to work on emphasizing education to get out of poverty. That's the ultimate villian here. In my opinion. |

It doesn't matter what culture you are from, all cultures have a drug problem, Rich people, poor people, people in the middle, drugs has no boundaries. If you seriously think that drugs are targeted for minorities, you need to do more research. |

No, I don't. The problem is that most of the drug dealers prey on the poor. And some poor people see selling drugs as a way out. Others see using drugs as a way out. Unfortunately, the minorities in the US are disproportianately poor, so you see larger percentages of them being arrested than whites. If you life in a mostly white community like I do (about 95% white, population 3500), most of the arrests are whites, of course. Actually, the few minorities we have here never seem to get into trouble with the police, but then, most of them are working class people, not poor or unemployed.
The problem, really, is more of a class issue than a race issue. Unfortunately, minorities make up a large portion of our poor, so you tend to see arrests out of proportion with the population as a whole. |

black drug dealers are incarcerated with white drug dealers.
there are just more black drug dealers.

he war on drugs does target blacks and minorities. If there were equal opporunities for them perhaps they wouldn't have to sell drugs to feed themselves.
The bigger issue is who gains in drug sales. The country of Columbia wouldn't have an economy without cocaine. Neither would Afghanistan. They have to find a better cash crop for growers if they are going to win any War on Drugs. |

Not really. I think the drug problem is a major reason for the high crime rate in the US. It's out of control but I don't think that we should give up. |

Good question..All I know is it is not a real war on drugs..Making possession a minor offense will never do it..If you really want to do something put serious jail time on possession...Minorities tend to sell the most drugs so obviously get caught the most.. I do know the government targeted blacks back in the 60's but not sure today |

When asking this question a person needs to specify which drug and when used by what age group. Tommy Chong has not hurt our country or gunned down children. A meth user ran down people on the Las Vegas strip because (he claimed) they were devils. So the "war" is a good thing so long as the bad drug is the target of the war. don't worry, Meth people will soon out number an individual race as "the prison people" |

No, I don't think its an excuse to target blacks. I think drug use is a major problem to our country. Yes, people are going to get high but that doesn't mean it should be condoned. People are going to drink and drive....does that make it right? People are going to committ murder....does that make it right? Using the excuse that people are going to do it no matter what is a poor argument for making something legal in society.
Societies are built on laws and rules that are meant to serve and better the communities we live in. Drug abuse causes a number of ills in our communities from theft, to murder, to mothers who would rather get high on crack than raise their children, to children who see the drugs as a way out of poverty rather than working hard in school and trying to raise themselves above their surroundings. It saps the best out of our people and turns them into dopped up drop outs from society. |

No I think it was well intentioned when it was set up, in the 1960's, I believe. However, when it became clear that it wasn't really working to reduce the drug trade, changes weren't made. Why? racism and because politicians couldn't "ease up on felons" and still get reelected. |

A lot of drugs have been seized with the war on drugs. Don't you think a better question would be how to redirect minorities from selling and distributing drugs. There has been affirmative Action, and more social programs that I care to think about to help people. The pull of big money is too great. They take a chance and they know it. Most will lose, but they figure that out after they have been caught. I have to disagree with you on this one. |

i think the war on drugs is ridiculous!!!!! honey...they're not just getting the minorities, I'm a white woman and i was a "prisoner of war" for a short time...you may well be right...it may have been started to target blacks but they're screwing us all!! it's a war they will never win...and it's costing taxpayers a fortune!!! i believe we, in the USA, aren't too far from our own civil war over this very thing...I may be completely alone in my thinking, but i can do that in this "FREE" country we live in...I love my country but i fear my government!!!! |

Not at all. If anyone gets caught selling illegal drugs, (most of which are detrimental to society), they are punished, regardless of race. Would you consider arresting a terrorist as just an excuse to target Muslims? We have an over crowded prison system, and in fact too many criminals are let back into the public because of this problem, so why would there be a conspiracy to lock away more people? |

No, but I think your question is legitimate, because it naturally targets them. The war on drugs has affected minorities because of the violence level it has created; a culture that is dangerous and attractive to minors. Unfortunately, there are not many fathers in areas where drugs run rampant, most likely due to their own drug habits and inability to face responsibilities. This creates a vicious circle that has made more fatherless families with even less role models. A single mother cannot possibly maintain a household in a drug-infested community, and the police riding around in a tank, or dressed in black uniforms with M-16 rifles will not solve the problem either.
Unfortunately, drugs will have to naturally run its course dry, and the people have to ban together in the communities to stop the drugs. A giant corrupt government only will create more violence. |

no I don't think it is. They feel the need to do something about it. A whole lot of people are dying because of the drugs. How many women have buried their children because of dope? That is very common in the minority group. Another way of looking at things is they are trying to help not harm. Besides the ones locked up are the ones who MAY kill another person. Leaving a mom to bury her child. Will it stop them from harming another - no. But they get another day. It's so heartbreaking to see a mom on TV crying her eyes out for her child.
The police will always have job security because of the drugs. It's not about to go away. But really what else is there to do? No one should have to bury a child. . |

I don't think it was INTENDED to be a war on minorities, but I think it largely HAS incarcerated a lot of minorities because the poverty rates would seem to dictate that more minorities than whites would be more desperate to break out of that cycle.
The War on Drugs was always an ill-conceived notion, in that it targets a mind-set. If we were serious about it, we would've fire-bombed the cocaine plantations of Columbia and Venezuela years ago.
Rather, the War on Drugs should target WHY people choose to use drugs. And it should provide easily accessible treatment for those who are addicted. |

I can't say it's an attack on minorities, but I can say it's unfortunate that a lot of minorities are frequently arrested and jailed because they were found to b in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia...The only way to really truly get drugs off the streets would b to go to where they are made and manufactured, which would b impossible..Therefore it's alot easier for law enforcement to arrest the "lil guy", meanin the small time drug dealers and users, than those who actually make the drugs and ship them all over the world to b sold... |
